According to Micahel Kay (what a great source), the Sox are close to a deal to get Steve Trachsel.

he said trachsel for millar is in the works.

Mets currently have 6 starters - Willie made the decision that Trachsel is the odd man out. Trachsel had his agent call Omar to demand a trade.

I pray this is right! Traschel has been great since his return, and we can get Petagine more ABs. Does it get better? For once, I hope Kay is right!

Yeah, he was hurt though. Only negative with this deal. Trading Millar should be done ASAP! Before the Mets decide to back out, knowing what their getting, LOL. Only weird thing is, the Mets have this guy they JUST recently called up, named Mike Jacobs. He plays first but I guess hes "out of position" or "Doesn't really have one" but he plays first pretty good. And he can actually swing the bat. But if this is the case, anything we can get for Millar is a significant upgrade.

I think Minaya needs to wipe the cocaine off his nose.

Millar isn't a good 1st basemen, at all. Mike Jacobs has one of the prettiest swings in all of baseball, and they'd be better off putting him in at 1st.

Yeah, thats the only question with this deal. I live in Arizona and got to see the games where he LIT UP the D'Backs (Granted, the D'Backs but still) and hes WAY better than Millar. Thats why I'm saying, do it NOW before Minaya realizes this is dumb. They have no need for a pinch hitter, they have Jose Offerman and Marlon Anderson for that. Millar would not fit anywhere on the Mets, if this is a proposed deal, it should be done immediately!

dude why are you complaining about what mets are getting, and not getting excited about what the Sox would get in return?

I believe he's tossing all bias aside and analyzing the baseball for what it's worth.

Well either someone read something wrong or was wishfully thinking but the actual story from ESPN Insider ...

ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney reports the Mets and Red Sox have discussed a trade that would send Trachsel to Boston.

The Mets are said to be asking for a relief pitcher from the Red Sox in return for Trachsel, who has cleared waivers. The Mets could also consider acquiring either John Olerud or Roberto Petagine, both first basemen, from Boston.

Trachsel, who pitched eight shutout innings in his first start of the season last Friday, is presently a part of the Mets' bullpen.

Relief pitcher? Hey Omar, we've got a lefty for you. He looks a little like Billy Bob Thornton and is on "assignment" right now. Interested?

Meh, if we have to give up 1 of those 2 I'd rather give up Olerud. Petagine has been good, so has Olerud, but Petagine has his youth.

I hope that statement about Petagine's youth is a joke.

Anyway, yeah I can't see this deal really happening now as the Sox are short on relievers as is, and tradining Petagine, or Olerud would mean even more playing time for Millar.

EEK! My mistake. I thought he was younger than he was. My bad.

Petegine plus crappy reliever for Traschel would be fine. I would keep Olerud and Millar (just for the rest of the season) if we could get a solid guy like Traschel.

boo

The Sox inquired about Mets pitcher Steve Trachsel over the weekend but were told he was not available, according to league sources. There was a published report yesterday that a deal might be in the works, but sources said it was highly unlikely. ''The Mets would be crazy to move Trachsel," said one league source. Trachsel, who had missed most of the season with a back injury, shut out the Giants on two hits in eight innings last Friday in San Francisco
