 Royals' Howell returns to face Yanks

Kansas City (42-84) at New York (71-56), 1:05 pm Eastern Time

The Royals look to stave off their first series loss in three matchups on Saturday by evening a three-game set with the Yankees at one apiece. They will try to do so behind rookie starter J.P. Howell, who was called up to replace right-hander Runelvys Hernandez. Hernandez was placed on the 15-day DL on Friday with a low back strain. The left-handed Howell makes his ninth start of the year, and first since July 21. He allowed five hits and four runs in six innings during that game, a 10-1 loss to the Guardians. He'll be opposed by Yankees right-hander Jaret Wright, who takes the mound looking to win his third straight game since returning from a four-month injury layoff.

In beating the Devil Rays and Blue Jays, Wright has allowed only two runs in 13 1/3 innings, striking out seven and walking four.

Wright got out of the jam, but he's throwing a lot of pitches and having trouble locating. 15 strikes, 13 balls in the first.

I go back on what I said earlier about this kid being a rookie facing the yanks, he has outlasted jaret wright. Limiting the yankees to just 2 hits (both hits by Hideki) in 5+ innings, only downside was the 4 walks

Buddy Bell must have a grudge against the Sox. 7-3 into the bottom of the 9th. Burgos pitched a perfect 8th, but he brings Affeldt in. Affeldt lets the bases load with 1-out, then he brings in Shawn Camp (7.34 ERA, 0 SVO). Where's McDougal? Anyway, 7-6, runners on the corners, 2-out for Sheff.

That was the Devil Rays. I'm still wondering where McDougal, their closer, is. He didn't pitch last night.

ARod walkoff single.......5 runs in the bottom of the 9th to win. No McDougal.....I smell a rat.

I thought you were referring to the 13 runs TB gave up to the Yankees in the 8th to lose a game 20-11. I didn't realize there were 2 13-run innings in MLB this year.

:) Don't blame KC, the Yankees are just good. (Should have turned the DP to end it when the had the chance)

I believe MacDougal got hurt, because he was warming during the 9th.

During the 9th? He's their closer, yeah I know it's not a SVO if he goes in to begin the inning, but in the past 4 days he had thrown 23 pitches in 2 innings on 2 separate days (none yesterday). No, I don't really believe it was a conspiracy. That being said, I think Yankee fans ought to appreciate the fact that Buddy Bell didn't really go after this one.

I can see the Sox being a little tight tonight after knowing about this Yankee win.

I can see Sox fans being a little tight, but I seriously doubt it will affect the team's play.

They showed MacDougal warming when the Yankees got a man on. They went to the kid with the 7.24 ERA. Only logic behind that is Mac got hurt.

I think the players have started scoreboard watching, seeing this would have to leave a little pit in your belly. It shouldn't bother them but who knows?
