As indicated these are pitchers both starters and relief who will become free agents

If they want a top-flight starter, then Florida's A.J. Burnett will top their list. The Marlins entertained thoughts of trading him at the deadline, but found themselves in the playoff hunt and pulled back. They still might not be able to satisfy Burnett's demands, but he fits Ricciardi's profile as a young veteran with upside who could fit with Halladay and Lilly. Of course, Boston, New York, and others will contend for Burnett, as well.

Beyond that, there's Angels lefthander Jarrod Washburn, Dodgers righthander Jeff Weaver, the 40-plus Jamie Moyer and Kenny Rogers, and guys like Kevin Millwood, Matt Morris, Jeff Suppan, Tony Armas Jr., Brett Tomko, Jason Johnson, Paul Byrd, and Shawn Estes.Millwood is fascinating. He's 6-10, but the Guardians have scored just 12 runs total in his 10 losses. They have been shut out in four of his last nine starts. ''I don't know what it is," said Millwood. ''There's nothing I can do about it but keep going out there and pitching. Whatever happens happens. There may be better options in relief.

Philadelphia's Billy Wagner and Baltimore's B.J. Ryan, two flamethrowing lefties, are the class of the group. Wagner could be off the market if the Phillies meet his demand for a contract extension by Sept. 1. Beyond that, there's White Sox closer Dustin Hermanson, Red Sox setup man Mike Timlin, Yankees setup man Tom Gordon, Cleveland closer Bob Wickman, and two of his top setup guys, both former Red Sox: lefty Scott Sauerbeck and righty Bob Howry.

Kyle Farnsworth, traded by the Tigers to the Braves, could be much sought after if the Braves don't lock him up, and it looks as if Pittsburgh will make every effort to retain Jose Mesa.

I agree, I think they are in the market for starters but not really bullpen with hansen and delcarmen in the wings. I bet they sign one of the big name guys on the market. There has been talk of the sox budget expanding alittle bit.

I hope we re-sign Johnny, Graff, and Millar at least. Then maybe Mueller but I doubt he will be re-signed as Youkilis will probably start at 3rd next year. I'd like to see Bronson resigned but I wouldn't be too heartbroken if he wasn't. My main concern is Johnny. I will be devistated if he goes elsewhere especially those damn Bankees.

I'm confident they'll resign Damon. I like Millar's clubhouse presence, but unless he's okay with a backup job or a HUGE cut in pay, he's gone. He's a great guy, but not worth the asking price. Graff should be resigned, with Pedroia backing him up at 2nd. Timlin should re-sign, unless he retires.

If the sox can go into next season with Damon, Renteria, Ortiz, manny, Tek, Trot, Youkilis, and Graff then there won't be too many spots to fill and they will still score a ton of runs.

Also, sign Burnett if possible. Schilling, Burnett, Wells, Clement, Papelbon would be a great 1-5, with Wake either in the pen or retired.

What is the liklihood that some of these older guys might retire if the sox win it again? It seems likely to me, but that's pure conjecture.

you hope we re-sign millar?????????? just what on earth for....there are enough hot dog vendors at fenway already....

how can you possibly say something like that after watching him outthere this year..

even if HE paid the sox to play for them I think it would be a bad move.

I'm pretty confident we will land Burnett, the Sox think they caan get him as long as they are in the vicinity of the top teams that will bid on him. I like our chances and I know Burnett is a huge fan of Mr. Henry from the Florida days.

If Sox do resign Mueller, what Im thinking is that transition Youk to starter, and Mueller as backup. Because really after a good 2004 season for Youk and then being a yo you in 2005 he more than deserves to get the start, and Mueller becoming a backup.
Posted
I dont think resigning Mueller is necessary. As much as I like Mueller, and what he has to offer, its time to move on. Youk has shown time and time again that he is ready, and should be give any and every opportunity to succeed on this team next year.

They are not resigning Damon, between Theo's low promised money and a heel of a lot of incentive style of signing people, and how much money/years Damon wants, there is no way Damon will be back.

I agree with YanksHater I don't see us bringing back Mueller unless we plan on unloading Youk, which would be foolish.

Who the hell said we need to resign Kapler? The guy has done good for us for a few weeks, but he sure as hell isn't an important asset to the team.

Basically I would like to see an infield of Youk, Edgar, Pedroia, and Konerko though I tihnk Theo would pursue Huff more than he would Konerko.

In the outfield I would like to see Manny, Mark Kotsay (highly under rated player), and Trot

I would like the rotation to look like

1.Schill

2. Wells

3.Clement

4. Aj Burnett (Hopefully he talks to Pavano about how bad New York sucks and comes here, though it looks like he wants to go to Baltimore)

5.Wakefield

If Kapler goes on to another team, Id like to see the Sox call up Dave Berg from Triple A who in 98 games this season has had a batting avg of .308, and his OBP is at .401. Before Pawtucket he had played for Toronto Blue Jays

Mark Kotsay isn't a free agent this year, he signed a three year extension earlier this season.

That's right I forgot abou that hmmmm than maybe in center I dunno I'm sure there is a suitable CF out there.

Jacque Jones, Craig Biggio, and Preston Wilson are some decent CF replacements if Damon doesn't resign.

I would want Jacque Jones if we don't resign Damon.

Isn't Juan Pierre supposed to be a FA?

renteria?your crazy!he's up to 26 errors now! 26! raferal furcal is a free agent at the end of the year...i say trade egdar for some young arms or money and sign furcal-who's BA is just as high, more triples, more HRs, more SBs, and less errors. i think furcal would be great...much better than that error making ss we have now :thumbdown

stop bashing on edgar god damnit. Rent has been clutch the past couple of games. First with that 2 out, 2 run hit yesterday, and today with the HR

note that this guy does a lot to help our club.

And for all of you who talk about his errors--last year, Tejada led the league in errors and I believe everyone here will agree that he is a great SS. Everyone focuses on his errors--last season, Tejada had something like 20 at SS. Edgar does a lot for this club--and a lot of things that go under the radar.

It takes a good fan to notice the things he does. He bunts well, preforms the hit and run, steals bases and does to absolute intangibles to make our club better. Not to mention he brings a sense of small ball and NL to the sox.

hes batting over .333 for the month of august.

the RED sox don't play small ball! they don't get outs to move runners! they move runners by scoring them on hits! manny and ortiz(200+ RBIS)that is the WHITE sox! not the RED sox!let's trade edgar and play our long ball

exactly and besides helllloooo "Sox GM", Furcal is the bread and butter of the Braves young players. I dont see him leaving anytime soon. And its not 26 errors its 23, you bash on Edgar and cant give exact stats. Boston players are not sent to steal bases as much, because the offense they have stealing bases is not that important

hmm there was somebody who produced the game winning hit today

He also MAKES a lot of good plays. He has had a lot of errors but I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that this player is going to be solid once he gets used to a more difficult league, with different grounds, etc. The NL is a lot different from the AL and I am so ashamed of "fans" that fail to find the good things this ballplayer does.

ok GUYBO, ortiz bunted for a hit, tek did it yesterday, rent has done it numerous times.

He has gotten FAR fewer errors with the more time he spends in this league. He may very well only get one or maybe NO more errors this season. Before the first half was completed, I believe he had as many as 19 errors. So he has really gotten much more comfortable. Not to mention he is batting over .310 since the ASB.
