Report: Schilling to Start in KC Thursday

WEEI is reporting, through Sox play-by-play man Jerry Trupiano, that Curt Schilling will return to the rotation and start Thursday's game in Kansas City. Mike Timlin will fill the closer role temporarily.

This means either Wake's going to miss a start or Wells is dropping his appeal. I think we're going to see a big shakeup in the staff over the next week.

If Papelbon continues to pitch well, Clement pitches like he did last night, and Schiling is as good as he was last night, there's things to be optimistic about.

I think they have been waiting for the consistant velocity from Curt, and he had it last night. Now two questions arise. Can Mike handle it? Didn't look good last night, but not bad either. Who will fill the bridge role? Hansen and Papelbon, with Bradford and Myers for situational work, would be my guess.

We are playing the 19-losses in a row Royals, so maybe Theo wants to see how good he can start against a bad team. Even if Schilling pitches awful, our offense should still pound them.

Curt Schilling to rejoin rotation Thursday

By Boston.com Staff | August 20, 2005

Curt Schilling will leave the bullpen and rejoin the Red Sox rotation Thursday in Kansas City, Boston sports radio station WEEI 850 AM reported this afternoon.

According to WEEI, Red Sox radio announcer Jerry Trupiano called in with the news, and said also that Mike Timlin would take over the closing responsibilities for the short term. WEEI reported that Trupiano was passing along the news from manager Terry Francona, who made the announcement today in Anaheim.

Rehabbing closer Keith Foulke, who was hit in the arm yesterday by a line drive while throwing to Trot Nixon, could be back within the next couple of weeks.

omg im so f***ing psyched right now with curt coming back to the rotation, trot expected back shortly and quite possibly a healthier foulke in the next week or so. Im trying to not to get too ahead of myself, but ah good times im feeling it!!

Now that it appears Timlin is going to be the closer with Schilling starting next Thursday, I hope Francona had Wallace show Timlin the video of OC's steal and the ensuing double steal from the previous game. Timlin works so slow he builds up a lot of intensity for me when he's on the mound, especially with men on base. I would like to see him speed up his attack on the hitter and maybe that would help discourage running on him. You can take all day to putt, but it doesn't will the ball in to the hole any better.

Dinardo called up ...Stern to D.L..... Timlin will close for now...

Francona recording was just on EEI..not sure if they played it already but its official Curt to start Thursday..let the fun begin!

He's going to have to build up his velocity and get his split biting, or instead of being ineffective for an inning, he'll be ineffective for 5.

At least he gets a minor league start against KC before pitching against a real team.

Based on the way he looked last night, Schilling should be fine. The bigger concern is Timlin as the closer.

I found the McFarlane David Ortiz this morning at the ESPN shop in

I hate to disagree with you, but you're often right, as you are here.

Schilling's velocity wasn't great, but his splitter did look good. The key is consistancy, which Schilling hasn't shown.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this. He has been inconsistant in most of his outings. He had been hitting the gun for an average of around 88-90 with his FB, with an occasional 93 or so.

But last night he was consistantly 91-93 for the first time, and he did that for 2 complete innings. The splitter was biting with the extra velocity, but you could tell he was making a conscious effort to keep it down because the extra bite caused a few bouncers. And I can't blame him there because that has been his weakest pitch since his return (when it wasn't biting as much it ended up at the knees.......and then in the stands).

He'll still have some work getting his split back to where it was, but last night was night and day compared to all other outings since the return.

So he's going to go from consistently throwing 1 to 2 innings to 7 just like that?

I doubt he's throwing 7 innings. Unless he dominates completely, he won't be out there for more than 5 or 6.

glad to hear it.. just wish I could be there in person like I was when schilling first came back as a closer... we all know how that turned out :( still, it was pretty awesome to be there when he first walked to the mound, for the simple fact that fenway went bonkers. :D

I am cautious too, he has looked absolutely awful on a number of occassions. I also think he is running the team and becasue he has now ddecided he hates being in the bullpen he wants to start. Francona should just let schilling manage the team , and spare us having to pretend.

on top of that what is even more worrisome is just how lousy our bullpen has been lately--what do we have the highest ERA of any bullpen in the AL-PU...

and also it concenrs me that we so fair against good pitching. This angel series has finally exposed this team to reality against good competition. and while the average sox fan has been thumping thier chest against weaker competition and preparing themselves to win the division...the reality is this going to be a hard battle against the yankees who continue to play good ball. and ewhile the kids here dismiss the yankees because of their pitching, it has been far bettre than ours and that is uinexcusable.

the savoir theory is full of holes, and one or two good innings do nothing that I have seen to give any weight to the salivating of the delusional masses. because their have been some just pathetic outing s by schilling.

I hope he does well, but I think it will take a few starts and some hammerings and we doont have games to give away, particualrly against s***** teams.

lets not forget the starting pitching has been getting better recently Clement and Bronson have both had solid back to back outings but thoise games being no decisions. As well as Papelbon last week against the Detroit. In each of those total 5 games, the starters gave up 3 runs or less. Thito just needs to just do some managing of the bullpen, like not bringing in Triple A pitcher when the score what it was at 2-0, and having this loyalty complex now to remlinger, he doesnt deserve any more chances to redeem himself. DFA his ass!!!!

I think the BP is going to get a little crowed with guality pitchers to allow room for remlinger. BTW, anyone notice that the Sox neatly put Adam Stern on DH ( no DFA ) so we don't lose him ?

Did you see his last apperance against the Angels. His fastball was consistantly at 93-94 and his split worked as good as I have ever seen it. He faced 6 batters 6 retired and struck out 4. His velocity was fine, he is ready.

This game is aagainst the Royals it's the same as a minor league rehab start + Mike Sweeny.
