Last 10 PM game of the YEAR!!!!!!!!! :)

Clement takes a crack at Angels

Red Sox (69-50) at Angels (70-51), 10:05 p.m. ET

The Red Sox, 1-3 on this 10-game road trip, will try to reverse their momentum on Friday night when Matt Clement takes the ball.

Clement has struggled in the second half, and the right-hander is hoping to rediscover his form from earlier in the year, when he was the ace of the staff.

The Angels hammered the Sox, 13-4, in Thursday's opener of this four-game series.

The Red Sox hold a four-game lead over the Yankees in the American League East.

Pitching matchup

BOS: RHP Matt Clement

• 11-3, 4.53 ERA in 2005

• 0-0, 1.50 ERA vs. LAA in 2004

LAA: RHP John Lackey

• 10-4, 3.63 ERA in 2005

• 0-2, 8.68 vs. BOS in 2005

Player to watch

Center fielder Johnny Damon is just 3-for-17 on the road trip, making him a prime candidate to get hot.

Quotable

"When there's adversity, I think that's when we play the best." -- Red Sox manager Terry Francona

Quick hits

Vladimir Guerrero is 9-for-27 off Clement with a double and three homers. ... Bill Mueller has had success against Lackey, going 6-for-13 with three doubles. ... The Sox (31-32) have slipped below .500 on the road.

Not real confident going into tonight, Clement hasn't pitched well lately and those numbers against Guerrero don't make me feel much better, the team also hasn't been playing their best ball lately either. All I know is that we better see Petagine or Olerud at first base instead of Millar, otherwise Tito has some serious explaining to do.

clement used up his mulligan last week, and got bailed out by Mother Nature....I'm expecting a much better performance

Anyone got an idea why Tony G. isn't playing ?

I normally would say left-handed bat vs. right-handed arm, but Millar played last night while Olerud/Petagine sat.

Orsillo whyd you have to jinx them and say "well if they leave the bases loaded..." right after he had went into that olerud grounded out to 2nd base--i guess at least we were able to get to lackey to throw like 30 pitches his 1st inning
