S: But Danny, your birth certificate says that you are twelve years old, right?

D: Absolutely.

S: And you were in Vietnam?

D: Honestly, Simmy, those days are difficult for me to discuss, so can't we just put what happened over 30 years ago in the past?

S: How many years ago?

D: Twelve. Apple juice?

S: No…so do you dream of someday playing in the major leagues? Maybe with the grown up Bronx Bombers?

D: It's surely a dream. And since I grew up playing ball with [Yankees manager] Joe Torre, I think I would fit perfectly on that team.

S: But Torre is much older than you.

D: Three months, exactly. And I always tease him, calling him Grandpa and stuff like that.

S: Danny, how old are you really?

D: Twelve.

S: But in this conversation alone you have given me many reasons to suspect that you are in fact much older.

D: Simmy, you and everyone else can read into anything you want. The fact is that I'm twelve, and I just wish you and everyone else would leave me and my wife alone.

S: Your wife? How many years have you been married?

D: Twelve. This interview is over.

Almonte was way overrated. 2 years older than the rest of the kids he was playing against was a huge difference, especially at that point. I likened it to playing with my brother's team, who is 2 years younger than me. I would have dominated that league, and I'm not a Hall of Famer by any stretch. He was more physically mature, and that made him overpowering.

his dad moved him to Florida (better competition) and now hes playin for a team called the Florida Bombers. He will be eligible for next years draft, I would be shocked if he didnt go to the Yankees.

How can you say he's overrated, yea in the LLWS he might have been, but what about his last 3 years, his team made it to the city finals every year, and hes lead the way. I cant say hes overrated, because hes been very good the last few years, but we'll see for sure as he gets drafted next year.

He played against kids at least 2 years younger than him, that's how he got his ticket to fame! Could you imagine a college freshman playing high school JV baseball? An average athlete would dominate them. Almonte is decent, overhyped, overrated and won't amount to anything in the big leagues.

The City of New York actually forced him to move up a grade after they found this stuff out so he was either lieing and is now playing with kids his age or telling the truth and is now playing with kids older than him. Either way it sounds like he's doing well.

Throwing 75mph at 14 years old isn't too shabby.

yea I saw them talking about it, it will be part of the 50/50 thing since they are going to be in Williamsport, PA (home of the little league World Series). I wish I could find the website of the team he is playing for now so I could check up on his stats for the year.

Who says he has a guaranteed ticket to the majors??? Whats so great about him, I know the story but never actually saw him pitch.

Hes not necessarily guaranteed a ticket to the majors, but he will be drafted no doubt. And there is a good chance he makes it to the Majors, but that will all depend on how he makes the transaction. I myself have seen him pitch when he still lived here, his fastball is devistating, his 2-seamer has some pretty nice movement inside, his breaking stuff wasnt GREAT, but it wasnt bad. He is going to be very interesting to folllow over the next few years.
