he did go into the thrd inning but didnt record an out--He started off the third inning priceless, in 16 pitches he had walked the bases loaded, lmao, then somebody from the Guardians hit a double that drove in two more runs--Yea I think its safe to say Yankees wont be giving him an extension next season

Well, looks like the Yankees paid Lieter just for that one start against the Sox. It's good to see ole' Al has come back to earth and sucks again. Quantity does not equal Quality. What do the Yankees have now ... 5 completely useless pitchers? And what 2 that are worth a s***?

With the Yankees pitching I'd say the Royals have as good a shot to make the playoffs. I think last night may start their long slide into 3rd, and maybe even 4th place if the O's can get back on the ball.

wakefield strikes out 7. his knuckleball is amazing. I guess he trows a 4seamer, a curve and his knucklecurve. if he would throw two more like a 2seamer and a slider it would be much more effective. I know that it is pretty difficult to face a knuckelballer but Wakef. could be better! I know he doesen't have great velocity but...

but still yea he was able to settle down after the solo shot in the 2nd inning, hes the most consistent starter in how long he will go into the game to give the Sox a chance to rally back, he always has seemed to last 7 innings or more each game, one being a complete game against the Yankees. Wakefield celebrated his 39th bday with a win and definitely there will be more wins, he did sign a 3 season extension back in April giving him 14 seasons with the Sox ;) also big props to Tony G, who is making a big contribution thus far in his first 9 games as #10

He's hitting .240 with RISP.

Thanks, thanks for always digging up the actual stat on me. :D

I think Sheffield's has the highest BA with RISP. So yeah, I would have him hitting bottom of the ninth, two outs, first, then Matsui, and I guess Jeter and A-Rod at a somewhat distant third (right now) and fourth (Rodriguez might be one of the top five hitters in the league, but this IS with the game on the line, and he's not quite there yet).

Actually in the late innings A-rod is better than Sheffield. He and Matsui are pretty close. Jeter is the worst ... so much for being Mr. Clutch eh?

Matsucki? Mind sharing some of the other nicknames you've concocted for this team?

First I'm told that Posada ain't all that bad, now this. This. Whatever. JUST GET ME THE WINS!

I'm taking Womack in the clutch. I mean, there has to be SOME reason for his signing...still trying to figure it out. But Torre insists on playing him, IN CENTER, still. Yes, Cano earned his gig. But why [play Womack]? To get a SB? A walk? A clutch single? WHY?

Aside from Gay Rod I just made up all the other names while I was typing that. I guess if you really want I could make up a full list of Yankee bashing nicknames for everyone on the team.

wakefield is consisted because he's a knuckleballer. if he would throw faster, around 90's let's say, he would have to leave as the others do too. all in all he's a good knuckleballer but if he throws his 4seamer the pitch is around 80mph and not more. my opinion: he's just in the sox lineup because he throws a knuckleball.

?? i dont see him as consistent just because he throws a knuckleball. Its plain and simple that Tim Wakefield on top lasts an average 7 innings a game, Matt Clement, Bronson Arroyo and David Wells each last an average 6 innings a game. And with Wade Miller's average being under 6.--sure he is the only pitcher that gives a steady dose of knuckle balls but hey he mixes it up with fastballs and curveballs, the homeruns this season have all been on the knuckleball that he sometimes hangs it up there in the zone--He is a notch veteran of the Red Sox, been there since 1995--he ranks third in wins by a pitcher at 124, only behind Roger Clemens and Cy Young--hes third in strikoeuts at 1418, only behind Roger and Pedro--and is also in third for games, appearing in 409 games

The knuckleball is the least consistant pitch. Wakefield throws 80, because that's as hard as he can throw.

He's in the Sox pitching staff, because he's the ultimate competitor, and the ultimate teammate.
