Why Can't the Sox Run Bases

It is sad, the mistakes the Sox make on the basepaths are just simple heads up plays. I've seen 13 years olds run the bases better than some of these guys do. Also, it doesn't help that we have the worst third base coach in the league. Instead of fining them, these guys should just get benched, but Tito would never do that.

Yep Manny gets gunned out at second trying to stretch a single into a double, and we shouls sit him and his 107 RBI's down. You're brilliant, Tito's an idiot for not doing that. We shold just fire him now and make you manager.

 

While we're at it why don't we release Ortiz so we can pick up Bret Boone, trade Curt Schilling stright up for Chan Ho Park, and release a statement on how much we all love A-Rod. Because that would make perfect sense too.

I dunno I kinda like the fact that they don't steal alot of bases when they have Ortiz and Manny behind them. I think it's better that they don't risk getting caught when you have ur two biggest hitters coming up. Seeing as how every single run helps.

Which is exactly why you're an idiot, lets sit down argueably the best right handed hitter in the game, because he get's thrown out somewhere, brilliant.

 

This is not a movie, you can't bench someone and all of the sudden he and the rest of the team becomes inspired and they go on an 18 game win streak while being the best base running team in baseball. It doesn't work that way.

 

The only thing we would be acomplishing by sitting Manny down is hurting our line up.

Sox dont steal as much bases as other teams like devil rays and white Sox simply because there is no need to most of the time, they have the best offensive lineup in the major leagues leading categories such as runs, hits, drawing walks, why steal a base when you know guy up to bat has the ability to drive the ball into the oufield or beyond

That's not the only reason. There seems to be a lack of " heads up " base running. Simple things that indicate you head is in the game. Actually "running" with two outs, I don't know how many times runners have gone half way ( why ? afraid to make the 4th out ). Runners not taking the extra base on a throw through or missed cutoff ( they should end up at second - without a steal, walk or single to advance ). Failure to run on a weak arm ( hell they do it on Damon ALL the time, also Manny because of his Manny being Manny attitude, but occasionally he decides to make a play, hence all the put-outs ). Not run on B. Williams arm ? I'd chance it. All I'm saying if you have the potential and or opportunities you have to take advantage to achieve your potential.

It works both ways, meaning knowing when to run and when not to.

I think he saw the short stop playing back and didnt realize the third baseman was playing even with the bag.

I cant believe that anyone wou;d jump on rent for that play. I dont knowhow many of you guys have played baseball but there are so many things going on a play like that--it's a judgement move..and hey he got pegged..big deal.

 

I heard tito on weei this morning and he said he he and manny and talked about this being an off day and tito prefered he take it today--how can you pin that on manny.? He siad much to his surprise manny called him early this morning which gave him plenty of time to make moves, he appreciated it and said thats they way it is supposed to happen.

 

The only thing I can say is that sizzlin you shouldnt bother trying to explain a game that is obviously too complicated for some people to understand. your posts are great and I wouldnt let that guy piss you off.
