When Miller Comes Marching Home

Wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the rotation when Miller comes off the DL. Assuming he's healthy and back to form, it's looking like people are going to be making some tough choices.

 

I'm thinking: Schilling, Miller, Wakefield, Clement, Kim. Oh wait, Byung Hole in gone.

 

I'm really thinking: Schilling, Miller, Wakefield, Clement, Arroyo. Wells goes to the bullpen for middle relief because Arroyo has earned his stripes.

I think the starting rotation will have to include Wells. Not that I would agree to it, considering when you look at everyone's numbers (see link in sig) but that's why we signed him....so that's unfortunately where I think he'll be. Wakefield and Arroyo both are pitching great in the rotation, so in my opinion it wouldn't be fair or a very good decision to move them to the pen.

It'll obviously be either Arroyo or Wakefield, so it will probably come down to who's struggling when Miller comes back.

I think it's going to be wake or arroyo too. I would personally keep arroyo and drop wells but I dont think they will do that. Wake would be tough to have in the pen because Tek can't catch him. So you would have to either sub out Tek late in games or have Tek look stupid trying to catch him.

 

I would start Miller off with a couple relief appearences then whoever is struggling at the time gets the boot out of the rotation. Its not a bad problem to have 6 SPs though.

Wade Miller allowed only a leadoff homer as he pitched five innings during a rehab start Monday, He gave up six hits, striking out six, walking none.

Some guy in the local newspaper had an idea that they red sox should just use all six starters. Have a six man rotation. The more i think about it the more i like it.

It is very unlikely that Wells will go to the Bull Pen.

I think it would be VERY VERY VERY DUMB to take Wake out of the rotation he has been pitching NASTY! 1.37 ERA 0.97 whip and 2-0 that would be dumb to get out of the rotation personally i put Miller in the Pen fist test him a little and then start him.

Guys, Wake is not leaving. Partially because of what Sizzlin said, and because knuckle ball starters are VERY RARE. Think about it in a series. You have fast pitching, then the knuckler throws you off, then back to fast pitching. Not to mention when you have Mantei waiting in your bullpen to hurl a f***ing 95mph fastball past your face right after seeing a knuckleball and waiting back on it. Wake will not be leaving. Unfortunately, it will be Arroyo. Arroyo can come in early relief if Wells f***s things up.

 

Another thing, six man rotations throw pitchers off. That's why, I forget who, said that they hate off days. It gives them another day off on top of the days that they have to wait to pitch again. I mean think about it, it could be a full 6, yes, 6 DAYS before you get another start. Waiting a week isn't good. Look, pitching on short rest isn't good, but if you let your arm get too comfortable you're just asking for trouble.

When Schilling is 100 percent, I don't want him waiting an extra game every time. The more the Schilling, the better.

The six man rotation is a weird idea that may work. However I think the Sox take Miller real slow, bringing him back late next month or even June and maybe spot starting him. With his injury he can be one pitch from blowing it up.

A 6 man rotation doesn't necessarily have to be a 6 man rotation. We could use one of the 6 guys as a spot starter, or bring him in for long relief on consecutive days. It's obvious that our pen isn't performing too well, so a solid guy with stamina may help. That said, I think it makes the most sense to put Wake in the pen since he can come in in any situation and help out.

you really cant put Wake in the pen because he needs Beli as his personal catcher. i dont want to see Tek catch him anytime soon. A 6 man rotation takes starts away from Schilling so thats not a good idea. You want your 5 best pitchers to be in the rotation - that would leave out Wells or Clement in my mind but neither will be put in the pen. Arroyo will go if Miller comes back and is pitching well. But I would put Miller in the pen until he was totatlly back

i dont want to refer to the yankees but this is what we should do...

 

Last year the yankees had 6 starters after the loaiza trade.* Torre decided to give an audition to all his pitchers and make a 6 man rotation for two turns.* they knew mussina, brown, and lieber were staying in the rotation, but they did not know about El Duque, Loaiza, and Vazquez, so they let them duke it out.* Loaiza allowed more runs than IP and lost out to the pen.* The sox should do that, knowing that Schilling, clement, and Wells are the only 3 who will stay in the rotation and see who loses out....

Probably but he's been pitching pretty well.
