SEOUL, Dec. 21 (Yonhap) -- South Korean pitcher Lim Chang-yong may consider signing a five-year contract with the World Series champion Boston Red Sox, the player's agent said Tuesday.Antonio Nam said the club has offered a revised contract totaling US$9 million, including a $250,000 signing bonus, until 2009.

If this is true its good news. Thats really cheap for a pitcher, and hes probably a good pitcher. Also, it would definitely be an experience to finally bring over someone from a foreign country, to pitch for the sox. I don't know what this guys stats are, but 5 years, 9 million. must say that they want him bad enough to overpay him just enough, so he doesn't draw interest from any other ball clubs in the MLB. I don't think you'll see him start making just under 2 millions a year, but if he signs and does really well in spring training. then I could see him on the roster for atleast the first two weeks. Foreign pitchers are very concentrated on getting batters out, they treat it like a war. With that being said, if he comes out and gets hammered, he will loose all confidence, and the sox will be stuck with him for 5 years, 9 mill. Kind of like the BK Kim experience, lost all his confidence, and now they are stuck with a sizeable contract.

....and are you guys aware that BK Kim will be getting paid more than Papi next year by about 750,000

and on taguchi

A BDD source says that Japanese news reports indicate that Richard Moss, agent for Tadahito Iguchi, said he is confident that the former Fukuoka Daiei Hawks speedy second baseman will end up signing with the Red Sox. So far Iguchi has received an offer from the Chicago White Sox for two years at $4M but Moss has dismissed that offer, referencing Kaz Matsui’s three year, $20.1M deal with the Mets. Iguchi is quoted as saying "I don't expect to know where I will be when (Randy) Johnson doesn't know. I hope to know by the time (spring training) camp starts." Yankees manager Joe Torre was asked about Iguchi as a back up to Tony Womack and said "I don't know about him."

If this is true, im not sure about signing foreign players. Lim Chang-yong might turn out to be a total bust, like many recent foreign pitchers brought in from their countries, and Taguchi might be another K. Matsui. Do you know their stats? Whats your source?
