Get a load of this. We had Radke and then lost him. Thsi may explain wy Theo is making the run at Wells. In today's ProJo:

According to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Brad Radke -- a mainstay of the Twins' pitching staff since 1995 -- was set to sign with the Red Sox Tuesday night. And then Twins' pitching coach Rick Anderson stepped in.

According to the newspaper, Radke was prepared to accept a three-year offer from Boston when he received a phone call from Anderson. They reported the conversation went thusly:

Anderson: "Hey Rad, what's going on? You sign [with the Twins] yet?"

Radke: "No."

Anderson: "Why not?"

Radke: "They're not giving me what I want."

Anderson: "What are they offering?"

Radke: "Eight-something." (More than $8 million.)

Anderson: "Well, what do you want? Nine? ($9 million.)"

Radke: "Uh, yeah."

Anderson: "Nine a year is a go?"

Radke: "Yeah."

Anderson: "I'll call you back."

The newspaper reported that Anderson then telephoned Minnesota general manager Terry Ryan and told him Radke would sign for two years at $9 million per year. Ryan agreed, but said the contract could contain no incentives.

Anderson called Radke back.

Anderson: "Nine a year, but you've got to dump the incentives."

Radke: "I don't know . . . "

Anderson: "Come on Rad, what the heck!"

Radke: "Awwww, all right."

And the deal was done. When it was over, Radke called Ryan and thanked him for allowing him to stay in Minnesota, which is where he wants to play.

"That was kind of fun," Anderson told the Pioneer Press. "I think it's kind of cool. I'd never been involved in anything like that. I'm sure I didn't have a lot of tact."
