I hate to be a prick about it, but there is a section for rumors on this site.... Perhaps Yeszir could move it there?

Anyway, I'm not sure I like this idea. I know you feel that Nixon is overrated, but so is Zito also. He's gone downhill a lot in the past few years, and nobody seems to know why.

I know pitching wins, but I can't stress this enough: It's not players like Manny Ramirez who win championships.... it's guys like Trot Nixon who play hard and play the game RIGHT. Let's not forget who saved the Red Sox in game 5 of the ALCS with an AWESOME play on Hideki Matsui with the bases loaded and the Sox down by a run. If that ball falls in, the Red Sox would just be "that team who lost to the Yankees on their way to their 40th pennant."

Trot Nixon is a BIG part of this team, and I hope he stays, personally.

As much as I LOVE Nixon 1 this isn't happening because BIlly Bean wants young top prospects not Trot and 2 this is wayyyyyyy in favor of the Sox if there were any truth to it at all I would and play Roberts in RF but it's not happening.

I'll be moving to the rumors section. I've also heard Nomar going to the yankees. Just because you hear it on Tv doesn't mean its true.

I'm also a little worried about Zito's curveball.

Johnny - take it easy. They were referring to your spelling of "rumors." You spell it differently in canada/UK. It was nothing against you, and no one called you an idiot.

I say we all need to calm down. Some people were cracking on Johnny pretty hard, and I can understand him getting slightly defensive.

We're all Red Sox fans here (well, most of us at least), so there's no reasons for heated arguments.

Johnny, I can see that you and I disagree on some things already (Trot Nixon), but welcome to the site, and happy posting! (please try not to take anyone's comments to heart)

It's a real shame the Expos moved out of Montreal... I live in VT so I went to more Expos games than Red Sox games!

Calvn was right, I was asking if you were from Canada because of your spelling of the word "rumour". We all need to calm down.

heres the rumor:

Red Sox GM Theo Epstein already has had talks with the Oakland A's about left-hander Barry Zito and has had ongoing discussions with the representatives for Carl Pavano, whom Sox officials are expected to meet with later this week. Zito is being shopped by the A's for economic reasons, but he is appealing to teams like the Sox because he is left-handed. With the exception of lefty Abe Alvarez, who was summoned from Double-A last year to pitch the first game of a doubleheader, the Sox exclusively used right-handed starters this season en route to the World Series title.

I like trot but Zito would be sick for the redsox but that may lead boston to not geting Carl P and then he goes to yankees but if they keep pedro then it all works out. but a lefty at fenway

1. Curt

2. Pedro

3. Carl P

4. Zito

5. Arryo

That be insane

that would never happen

the red sox are looking to cut payroll to under the limite so they don't have to pay a 30% luxury tax, in 2004 they paid 22.8 i believe.

you save 1.5 mill from the zito nixon trade, but you spend about 6 mill more from the lowe to pavano. if we keep pedro for 13 we save 4. in the end we're still spending 2 mill more on pitching. i'm not sure that's the direction of the club. it would be great, but that means a stopgap instead of oc or rent and no tek.

personally i would take:

petey, schill, zito, pavano, arroyo and no (awsome ss) and tek over

schill, (insert free agent), arroyo, wakefield, kim with (awsome ss) and tek.

hudson is the only one of the big 3 that i honestly fear. but i don't see how we need to get a big name pitcher to compete with the yanks, maybe to win the al east. but in a 5 or 7 game series we match up with them very well.

remember, the sox are trying to CUT payroll. getting hudson for 1 year only to have him be a free agent after that is not really the best way to do that. giving up trot, who's only making 6.5 mill (or so) for 1 year of guaranteed tim hudson is not worth it.

i don't see what's wrong with the current sox team. didn't this team just win the world series? resign pedro (if possible), sign pavano, let tek, oc and everyone else go.

pitching wins championships, not catching. did sandy koufax, gibson, rj, schilling etc need an aging catcher to win championships? don't get me wrong having a catcher that is capable of hitting is great, it makes your lineup that much deadlier. but tek is on the decline and we have to realize that paying him 11 mill (if it's not backloaded) for a 37 year old catcher is crazy! not to mention that no trade clause he wants..

i'm rambling, i'm shutting up now.

No, but you make a valid point. RSN LOVES TEK...but with what he's asking? He deserves to walk.
