In a crushing development for the former Red Sox great, Johnny Pesky was banned by Major League Baseball from sitting in the dugout at Fenway Park, as he has done regularly. He received a written notice of the directive.

"I'm hurt by it," Pesky said. "If that's the end, that's the end. I'm not going to jump in the Charles River over it because I can't swim, but I didn't think this could happen. The game has changed, I guess. I understand that."

Pesky said general manager Theo Epstein told him he would see what he could do to reverse the ruling.

WHY!!

Didn't he hold some position on the sox? So, why is he banned? Can't the sox re-hire him as a bench coach or something?

That's a really heartless thing for the sox to do. Wasn't it recently the 50th anniversary of his last game or something?

The MLB banned hiom not the Red Sox

I know that. I was just wondering he Pesky held a position on the sox. Because, if he did, why did MLB ban him?

I'm wondering why MLB would even get involved in this. Did another team complain about him being there? What harm does he do to the game by sitting in the dugout? What sets baseball apart from other sports is its connection to the past. Cutting off that tie by banning Pesky is foolish. MLB showed be embracing its stars from the past rather than casting them off. It's not like he'll jump out during a fight and take a swing at an opposing pitcher or run out onto the field like Baylor's kid.

That ruling is plain stupid pesky is the nicest guy u will ever meet and he doesnt deserve this. But i have heard that they think he is a liability because hes older and might not be able to get out of the way for foul balls.

many would say the sox should just hire him as bench coach but i believe there is a limited amount of coaches a team could have.

Jim Beattie, vice president of player personnel for the Orioles, acknowledged to the Washington Post that the O's placed the call to the commissioner's office that resulted in Major League Baseball banning Johnny Pesky from the Sox dugout at Fenway Park.
