from this morning's ny post.

September 15, 2004 -- KANSAS CITY — Gary Shef field threw down the gauntlet last night to Jason Varitek and the Red Sox. No more cheap shots allowed.

"You [take care of business] on the baseball field, you would hope players don't react till the situation and try to harm the other team," Sheffield began when he was asked about Varitek's infamous catcher's mitt slap to Alex Rodriguez' face seven weeks ago in Boston. "But if it came down to it, you've got to do what you've got to do."

Then Sheffield, who always backs up what he says, got down to Boston Business.

"I don't care if these guys hit us or throw at us," he said of the Sawx, eyes locked in on the target. "We ain't gonna stand for it and it definitely ain't going to turn out the way it did the last time."

The bottom line is, he can talk.... because he knows its true.

Typical pompus, Yankee attitude.

All we can do is hope we don't get swept in Yankee stadium.

I can hear Pedro laughing now. Sheff knows he'll get pounded inside this weekend by Sox pitchers. So now in his mind he can go charge the mound after he gets plucked. Let him, the suspension can only help the Sox. The fact is, they are not playing great ball and he feels he needs to fire up his team. It's all hot air.

I am from NJ and being around the Yes network..the way they honor Sheffield as the yankee savior is pathetic. Everyone forgets what an ass hole this guy really is...the same guy who threw away balls on purpose to get traded, speak out against managers and players, The balco incident which is not over, and the beating of his wife in LA. He is a punk, as great as he has been over the course of his career theres a reason why he has played for so many teams.

sizzlin-don't ask empire for his opinion, hes obviously tried to sleep with sheff

Not playing great ball? The Yankees are 8-2 in their last 10, and dominated as of late.

You can't make the excuse that they're playing crappy teams...because we got beat by Seattle and Tampa Bay!

Bren25, I agree with you. He has been trouble everywhere.

They are so desparate for a star, they overlook a lot these days in new york.

A carpet bagger with a chip on his shoulder is a pretty lame yankee star if you ask me.

In al the years we have fought these guys I dont think anyone on the yanks has had so little class..

same ******* different stripes...literally,.

sheffield has always a big classess, crass, steriod using, dolt.

He clearly lacks brains--but he doesnt reflect the typical yankee, becasue they are resorting to anything to keep winning.

Sheff wouldnt last day on our team or in boston.. You can have him.

Unlike empire I have mastered the internet and can read artciles from a lot of different newspapers from all over the world.

It';s really quite amazing.

artciles

yet you haven't mastered spelling I see. I think learning to spell is more important myself. Anyway, why is this in the sox forum? It clearly has nothing to do with the sox.

Finally matured...that's pretty good considering he is 35...that's normal in most grown men. Mike and the Mad Dog...I love the show, but not exactly a great source of information either. Typically, yankee fans get all the information from opinionated talk shows anyway. If he played for the Mets you'd agree what an ass hole he is. If Hitler played for the Yankees, A)he'd probably hit a walk off home run at some point and B) the Yankees would give him the key to the city.

being from NJ doesn't make me a punk for hating the Yankees. A lot of people from this side of the river are frontrunners, so its nice to see someone like the team he first saw at Fenway in the late 80s.

Bahahaha. In the spirit of Rosh Hashonnah (however you spell it), why not make a hitler joke, especially if it involves the yankees. :D

when did i say i wouldnt want sheff b/c of the uniform he wears? I'd take 30 and a 100 just like anyone else. but hes still a dickhead, not the hero the NY media tells us he is.

i don't understand how sheffield is a hero. he plays baseballe, a sport for a living. he's not a hero, he's just a baseball player.

throughout his career sheffield has been a complete *******. nothing more needs to be said about his character. if he has matured like empire says, well (as stated earlier) 35 (or however hold he is) is pretty damn late to mature.

as a baseball player it's his JOB to hit homeruns, to hit the ball well when runners are in scoring position. not everyone is good at it but not everyone is bad at it either. remember, it's his JOB. why is he so praised for doing what they pay him, what 13 mill a year?, to do?

no sports players are heros.
