  1. Best summary I can think of right now “grand theft Orioles”. We can’t live on his past statistics, he’s been hurt the last two years with a grand total of 17 home runs and if I’m understanding correctly, he’s on the IL right now. You’re kidding me right?
  2. I think it’s a reasonable idea to get him. However, remember the ball flies out in Colorado; just look at Trevor Story’s production with the Rockies before he signed with us. Im not saying the 33 hr thought won’t happen, if we get him we would gladly take that and more lol! While I'm posting this we are doing nothing at all other than the Mead acquisition. Hopefully something meaningful will materialize over the next 27 or so hours.
  3. Okay, I looked at his stats, the right handed bat makes sense. What can we offer? Do we impact the current ML roster or do we look at prospects or up and down guys like Campbell? Marcel Mayer? Thoughts?
  4. Reasonable swap. And what you had mentioned about his inability to pull the balls effectively as he used to, based on where we are in this season and how many games are left at Fenway probably won’t make a big difference at all. However, it could also be a motivating factor for him to work on getting back that pull in his swing.
  5. Great post, about Gleyber Torres. If I understand correctly, he would be a “rental“ until the end of the season. Naturally, there’s a risk associated with giving up prospects to get him, so I’m really not sure if it makes sense to do so. Also, if memory serves me correctly, the last time he was a free agent there wasn’t a great deal of interest in him. Yet that might translate into a better opportunity for us to retain him, however, with Curtis Mead coming back next year there may not be a fit. Clearly, we have a need, but I’m just thinking that someone controllable might be a better fit, again because teams that are sellers right now are looking for big returns.
  6. And following his career live for many years, the intangibles about how difficult it was for him outside of his baseball skills, I know we don’t add points for that, but we should maybe
  7. A bit to chew on, thanks. Also thanks for the birthday wish!
  8. After I read Joe Brady’s response, I think he’s on to something when he questions how good are our hitting coaches. I’ve been paying close attention to Durans swing lately and he’s missing making contact by no less than 6, sometimes as much as 12 inches. A good batting coach should pick this up, should be in the video room, watching JD in the cage, figuring it out and working with the player to correct what has been identified.. My gut tells me this isn’t happening, especially when you think of how Duran hit two years ago. Granted, when a player has been in the league for a few years, the word gets around where the holes are in his swing. Pitchers exploit those holes and that can explain why this is happening. But I agree with Joe. We don’t have a valid reason why someone isn’t addressing the issue and making adjustments. What also makes me curious about our batting coaches is we see how great Caleb Durbin has turned himself around at the plate, yet, it’s my understanding that he is working with one of the hitting instructors that Aaron Judge turn him onto. In and over itself that gives us a lot to think about, because if our in-house coaches are doing their job, then why would a player look for help outside of the organization. A lot to think about.!
  9. I’m in total agreement with everyone that is saying that we do need to find out why so many of these “once in a lifetime” type prospects, end up flailing when they get to the show. Over the history of Major league baseball of course, there have been a lot of players who were built as the next great player, and they were brought up, and didn’t really make the grade initially. That said, however, many of them did ultimately become great players. So I’m thinking that again part of the problem here is how are these players, not inclusive of the pitchers, being managed and handled during their development?
  10. Thank you. The podcast idea sounds interesting, however, I don’t know much about the logistics of what I would have to do, so if you can fill me in, that would be great. The other potential issue I might have for next Monday is that it is my birthday, so I’m not sure about time availability but we can talk about that also. Thanks again.
  11. If only we had a crystal ball! I’ve seen Arias at Portland and most recently Worcester. Frankly, some of our “can’t miss” prospects over the past several years have tanked; especially when a bunch of them received budget reckless contract extensions; Bello, Campbell, Anthony and Mayer all come to mind. So, we need to ask ourselves, do we have an internal flaw somewhere that leaves us with higher expectations than realism when it comes to the way we look at prospects? If Arias is our best chip, then we should be absolutely certain we get the biggest bang for the buck, before we risk adding his name to those I’ve mentioned, and then like each of those, and let’s throw in Duran too, we probably couldn’t bundle three of them together now and get a player that fits now and for the future.
  12. Excellent summary. We are becoming a team where we seem to be waiting way beyond the value versus viability timeframe before important moves are made. That said, we have clearly passed his value as a player, and if, rather make that when, they do move him, I really hope the change of scenery will do him well.
  13. Holding him accountable for his off year? Absolutely. In as many words yelling at him to kill himself after he makes an out? Fair game? Unfathomable that anyone would refer even vaguely to that type behavior as somehow defined as fair game. Really? Thankfully, most fans don’t, and my reference is only towards those who have and continue to do so. Save the comments about those who behave this way are the exception not the rule. It takes only one myopic, and frankly pathetic individual to set someone off. And I, like you understand that, and in my case from deeply personal real life experience.
  14. It’s myopic when any fan thinks they have the right because they bought a ticket to abuse someone who is suffering with a mental health issue. Someone who is candid about it, and is taking responsibility for it.There are some things that are just bigger than batting averages and on base percentages.
  15. Dick Allen, the former Major League Baseball star and seven-time All-Star, passed away on December 7, 2020, at his home in Western Pennsylvania after a long battle with cancer
  16. Right handed DH
  17. July with the WooSox, hitting .364, 2 home runs, 9 rbi, and a strike out to walk ratio 12/11 over the course of 15 games. He will be hard to move for value in a trade based on the stats you provided, and we are on the hook for big $$$. Thinking could this be his time like so many slow growers that did well across baseball history? Small call up risk with potential dividends?
  18. Currently hot with the WooSox. Possible short term solution to get another right handed hitter in the lineup? Just sayin. Maybe we get the real version now?
  19. Absolutely agree. Laughable that Crochet and Anthony are out for the year, and either the medical staff is being ultra compliant with medical confidentiality (HIPAA) or they are flat out clueless. Part of me wants to believe that ownership is controlling what they report to our fanbase. “Don’t tell the fans what’s going on with two of our stars, just string them along and they will still buy tickets”.
  20. After the abuse some of the myopic “fans” have heaped on Duran, he’s struggled and done his best. So, yeah, love is an okay word to use how we should feel and support him. If he’s sent elsewhere, a change of scenery will most likely get him back to somewhere near the raw talent he has.
