  1. Buehler was undeniably a bad deal but don't forget at the time people really loved this move from Breslow. One year deal for a guy with postseason experience who had shown flashes at time. Really sucked it didn't work out but don't forget some people had him penciled in as our #2 behind crochet.
  2. problem is the lack of depth. Crochet and Bello are both going on career high in innings. Gio is in his first full season since 2023. Alot of the bullpen has surpassed or is approaching career highs.
  3. Crochet is also pretty split proof with the cutter and Early's changeup should be a plus pitch against both LHH and RHH. Hopefully we'll target a RHP this offseason (i'm looking at you dylan cease)
  4. we really haven't had this many high level pitching prospects in a long time haven't we
  5. I hope not, a 6 man rotation makes much more sense and throwing Harrison in a long relief role sounds like giving up on him.
  6. Agreed, but the only thing we can hold against Breslow is not adding a reliable arm. If May had performed (like the flashes we saw in his start against Houston) we'd be praising him for not overpaying for a Zac Gallen or a Sandy Alcantara. Breslow went high risk high reward with May (good stuff on paper, poor performance and injury history) but that's a risk we really haven't seen the Sox take at the deadline in a long time. If he hadn't hyped up this deadline so much, or honestly if he had figured things out with Devers and hadn't put so much pressure on Devers, this deadline would be much less of a talking point.
  7. Lowe was a really great pickup and Matz had a 3.44 in 55 innings with a 2.93 FIP with STL. He also knows how important Connor Wong is to the pitching staff. Not a horrible deadline the problem is he ran his mouth about how "big" he is going this deadline after trading devers but didn't come through.
  8. Sucks that New York avoids Skubal and Toronto avoids Brown, could've been a great chance to pick up a game on Toronto and add one on New York. Tied with NY atop wild card but we do hold the tiebreaker. Securing home field advantage for the wild card should be our top goal.
  9. “It’ll be a short one, but keeping him in his regular schedule makes a lot of sense,” - Alex Cora on Tolle's start Wednesday night
  10. weird. CBSSports says Cora confirmed Tolle is starting today. They suggest Tolle might be on a pitch count or something with Harrison coming in to follow him, but that doesn't really make any sense. Why not just let Harrison go today and push Tolle back to Friday? Seems like something is going on here we'll learn about later today
  11. not to dampen the hot start but toronto has tied things with Houston and go to hit in the bottom of the 10th in a 3-3 game. unfortunately doesn't look we'll gain a game on them, but picking one up over NY is massive.
  12. Yankees and Blue Jays both losing right now, could be a golden opportunity for us to grab a game on both
  13. Harrison blowing up in his Red Sox debut against the Yankees on a Friday night in September with playoff implications would probably seal his and Breslow's fate among Sox nation.
  14. Sounds good. I'm really against the whole throw a top prospect starter into a relief role (think Bubba Chandler in Pittsburgh). Call me old fashion but I do think starters have a routine and that does matter
  15. Ah, thank you. Most of my roster rules knowledge comes form OOTP Baseball and I don't think the petitioning part is in that game
  16. Would Early qualify for the petition given he is replacing Dustin May? Do we have any past experiences to reference?
  17. hmm. Thank you I did not know that. So this is a pure September call-up to provide depth for a stretch run? Feels like they could've found that elsewhere and kept Early in AAA to develop.
  18. If Harrison is to start tomorrow, Tolle will get a Friday night start at Fenway against the Yankees in a September series with playoff implications. Can't really think of a higher pressure environment for a young starter in the regular season. He's got a real chance to make a name for himself in just his 3rd start.
