The team would have overlooked the fact that he did not fulfill all that was expected (e.g., being a team leader), given that he had a $300 million-plus contract. A temperamentally difficult, one-dimensional player, with negative influence in the clubhouse just wasn't worth it. As you would say to a kid, he had choices and made bad ones, and that's on him. He's a grown 28 year old man, after all.
