There are only 2 non-pitching positions in baseball where if a player is great defensively and below average with the bat, he will remain in the line-up. Unfortunately for Dalbec 1st base isn't one of them.
1st base is open, so instead of throwing a slider or curve low and outside to JD, the pitcher throws a FB down the middle. Do the pitchers and /or catchers actually pay attention?
E-rod made a couple of mistakes and paid dearly. Imho, the BIG difference between a great pitcher and a good pitcher is that a great pitcher gets away with more mistakes.
