  1. I assume he hasn't previously received a qualifying offer. If he accepts this one, what salary does he get? the qualifying offer or the 3rd year of his contract offer? I assume these numbers would be pretty similar. Yeah, it does look like he'll be back. If he accepts the QO can he then be traded?
  2. "I think everyone knows we don't think they're going to be able to afford Mookie," Martinez told reporters Sunday. "It's one of those things. It's kind of hard to have three guys making $30 million on your team. He deserves it. He's earned it." It sounds like Mookie is likely gone, because Martinez is a professional, and no loose opinion guy or twitter maniac.
  3. Of those, I see the Giants offering him the most, and he would seem like a good fit there. And it seems to be that the earlier he opts out the better for him, both financially and personally (a little more secure salary, and more stability)
  4. Yeah, why not first base and who wants him? are two very big questions in this discussion. I may be out of the loop a little, but I've never heard a beep about the first base possibility. And how does JD cut ties if he has no place in the AL to go?? Ah, one thought: First Base in the NL. That answers both questions. Any team in NL in need of a power-hitting first baseman?
  5. Ah, I was convinced he played third.... all the better tho, because Smith to first base where he belongs, and Devers stays at third. And Nimmo is one more outfielder to absorb the Betts loss.
  6. Betts to Mets for Nimmo, Smith, Gsellman, and Mauricio. Have seen this in a couple places. Devers to lb, Nimmo to 3rd, Mauricio (18 years old ss) soon to 2nd; Gsellman to the middle of the pen; and Smith to the outfield where, he says, he'll be ready to play next season. This might work if the Mets replace Gsellman with one of their decent starters. Obviously Betts would be a big boost to the Mets outfield.
  7. Ah, I think you answered the mystery.
  8. You said it... about the Yanks' season. Truly bizarre. But I'm picking Houston if they have home field advantage. Otherwise, I would prefer not to bet and won't. (I also wonder how all these mid-range players will do under playoff pressure, but the starting pitchers right now are better than ever)
  9. Both the Mets and the Sox have had similarly disappointing years, but the Mets are still in the race. And given the wider parity of the NL, I think we wd be there too, even without our DH. (And maybe our starters would average 6 innings a game instead of 5.1 and thus give our rather weak BP less work) No excuses, tho, this was a bad year for us in a weaker than usual AL. Hell, even the Yanks will have 106 wins (ha)
  10. If we were in the NL, we would be in the thick of that 4-5 team wildcard race.
  11. No deal. Fine if he were 20 years old but he'll soon be 30. C'mon.
  12. I'm no "Harmony" expert... lack of time here I guess, but I'm sure that Jackson is no problem at all. In fact, I think he's remarkable in not being a problem. He's not confrontational, not particularly argumentative, and not about causing disruptions. And he knows a hell of a lot about the game. He can provoke thought and gab, but that's what sports forums are all about. Mildly provocative at worse, i'd say. (maybe harmony is disharmony but I don't recall enuf)
  13. Yeah, I get what you're saying. I think the backup plan has to focus more on Sale because I do believe Price is the more predictable of the two. They can fairly well expect that Price will give the team about 150 fairly solid innings but not beyond that. Sale is the bigger worry because of the new contract... the team has to be on top of this situation and be ready with some kind of alternative game plan, which they hope not to have to employ. Whatever, I agree that "hope" is a better fit for fans, and that hope/plan is better for the front office.
  14. Workman... the stopper in 2020.
  15. Looks like E-Rod little shot at 20 wins post tonight. Any other milestones to root for??
  16. There's some debate about this--even among Pats fans. But, more to the point, no pos in baseball compares to QB in the NFL, and injuries are at least 5-6 times more prevalent in football (esp the kind that can take you our for full season). Also, NFL pre-season coaching bows a lot to big name vet players--that is they trust they're ready to go--and can see it in training sessions. (powerful move now to shorten pre-season)
  17. What a team needs to get from a good starting rotation is: 70% of all starts need to go either 6 full innings or more, and 25% should go 5 innings. None of these starters should be thinking about the pen...just do your job and get paid for that. When these factors are not present, then you might as well forget the playoffs, or do like TB and start relievers half the time or more. (maybe the problem, in the end, is Arena Ball)
  18. Independent of any comparisons, this is a truly unbelievable stat.
  19. ARENA BASEBALL. 2019 has already passed the highest MLB homer total of 2017 of 6105, and there are about 15 games yet to play. In 1927, the year Babe hit 60, there were 922 homers in the MLB And no baseball on Fridays.... that's Bush League... and what about my sports fix.
  20. The older one gets, the truer this seems to be. Or maybe it's just this perverse internet era where all the good words seem to get obfuscated or reversed. (advertising seems to push this process, too)
  21. I just saw a list of 12 possible GMs... and Beane wasn't on the list. Lots of VPs from currently winning teams as at Minny and at Houston. Never heard of about 90% of them but then I'm out of the admin loop.
  22. Ha. And he's definitely not the small sinewy type. These guaranteed contracts create a Vegas-like atmos. around signing players in the MLB. I really can't predict Mookie's future... let him go with his confidence about free agency. I imagine his statement is meant to mean "Trade me this summer." Besides, we're pretty damn good at coming up with great position players/hitters.
  23. Makes up for their Rams loss... to some degree. And helps the Pats a wee bit, but they probably don't need it.
  24. I think I was off my one yard.
  25. Send that in to Stephen Colbert... perfect.
