  1. None of the aforementioned events are necessarily lame. Anything that has widespread popularity must have some appeal. It's just that different types of things appeal to different types of people. And that is something that MLB definitely needs to think about.
  2. Sometimes scavengers can find some pretty good stuff in rich folk's trash.
  3. Spinning the News: Bulletin! Red Sox alumni sweep manager of the year awards.
  4. Sometimes, the " bird in the hand" philosophy wins out. Not everyone likes to roll the dice.
  5. E-Rod had his times where he was very good. But , after all is said and done, he is a career 4+ ERA guy. That is not exactly a rare breed. He can be replaced.
  6. It is the eternal struggle between management and labor. The owners ( management) are always looking for ways to control spending. The players ( labor) are always looking for ways to maximize their earnings. That is at the bottom of all of these kind of things. The fans ( us ) are caught in the middle. But without our support, it all falls apart. We pay all the bills. Hopefully, both labor and management keep that in mind.
  7. I don't agree that having great success leads to a "cliff" . After three terrific seasons , Dombrowski got a little complacent and let the bullpen deteriorate. Then came injuries and underperformance of key starting pitchers . A predictable ( to me ) poor season was the result. Apparently, that was reason to fire Dombrowski and to trade away our best player. It is hard to evaluate the disaster that was 2020, as that was an extremely bizarre season. This season , the Sox got back on the right track. There was no "cliff" . There was no " boom and bust " . That was always nonsense. And , " sustainable " is just another trendy buzzword. Continual success requires work and diligence every year.
  8. The " Smart Brothers" double team.
  9. It is natural to like some people more than others. So , we tend to downplay the success of those we don't care for , and make excuses for the failures of those we like. It's only human nature to do so. But the bottom line is still the bottom line. It doesn't change.
  10. The appeal of those thousand year contracts is that they do tend to lower the AAV.
  11. I just think that, for a guy who has yet to break his maiden ringwise, Bloom receives an inordinate amount of hype and applause from certain esteemed posters , whether it is during the season or during the off season.
  12. There is something to be said for retaining your core players. Bogaerts certainly is in that category for the Sox.
  13. Well , unlike the Bloom fan club crew , I don't mention Dombrowski every single day and in almost every single thread.
  14. In his defense, Dombrowski put together one of the greatest teams ever assembled. A team without any serious weaknesses. A team that won 108 games in the regular season and went 11-3 in the post season against some of the toughest opposition you can find.
  15. In my view , Aaron Hicks has been seriously overrated for a long time. I do not see what the attraction is or has been with Hicks.
  16. I think the Sox would be serious contenders in 2022 if they fielded the same team that they finished with this season. But with a better bullpen. Improving the bullpen should be a priority.
  17. While it is good to have ERod in the rotation , if you are really all that budget conscious , do you want to spend that much on a pitcher with a 4.16 career ERA ?
  18. The Braves were playing without Acuna , Ozuna and { later } Morton. They were seriously underrated. The National League in general is underrated by those who still believe that the A.L. is superior. The Braves played their best when it mattered most. They deserve to be Champs.
  19. In the words of the late , great Dean Martin ; the Series is " Goin ' back to Houston, Houston, Houston." It sure didn't look that way after the first inning.
  20. I despise Halloween.
  21. Jerry was truly a Red Sox icon.
  22. "Kill the ump"? " Kill the ump" ? Oh no !!! How terrible. Call the usher. Cover the children's ears. ( It seems there are more horse's asses than there are horses.)
  23. I thought Dusty did a poor job of managing the bullpen usage and the game in general. And why bat Greinke eighth , right behind Gurriel? Greinke is a pretty decent hitter , but he basically just took the bat out of Gurriel's hands with that move.
  24. The Astros are in the same position that they were against the Sox. Down two games to one and looking at two on the road. It was at this point that they turned it around in the ALCS. Will it happen again?
  25. Any time somebody says " not to be political " , they are about to get political. Every single time. Do we have a policy that says " No politics unless you preface it by saying " not to be political" ?
