  1. JBJ's defense is going to be what it is...outstanding...regardless of how he does offensively. Being one of his biggest home boys I have mixed emotions about what I want him to do in 2019. On the one hand I'd like to see him hit .275+ with 30 HR's and I don't think that's outside his ceiling. OTOH if he starts to hit like that we may not be able to keep him when he hits FA, and if we can't keep him we lose his defense.
  2. But this is what I don't understand. Nobody was talking about anointing Buch as "THE CLOSER" coming out of the gate. He'd just have been a viable - and relatively inexpensive - option if necessary. I even like him as a starter better than, say, Colton Brewer, and it't not unusual to go ten deep for a starter at some point in the season.
  3. But how long does it take? I'm sure Mcwire didn't wake up one morning and say, "Holy s***! What happened to my body during the night??"
  4. It doesn't matter. Anybody can close.
  5. Ye Gods. We're talking Monopoly money now. Numbers so big we (or I) can't begin to fathom them. For playing baseball.
  6. I like littler guys as my people to learn the the middle IF positions on the fly and neither Devers nor Dalbec qualify as "little". Smaller guys have smaller moving parts and therefore don't get in their own way as much. Therefore if I'm going to teach someone to play 2B at this point in their career I like Chavis' chance's of success better. Of course, as you said, there's Lin who was described by Cora last season as being 'the best defensive player in our organization'. That leaves us with solid defense @ 2B but not much offense in Lin or adequate (?) defense but lots of offense in Chavis. Of course, that brings me around to a question I've asked but hasn't been answered of, How long do the benefits of steroid use remain in the body after a player stops using? Is Chavis' power going to go away or is he now what he's going to be going forward?
  7. If Devers got moved to 1B then 3B would be available.
  8. Ecchhh... My hopes for Pedey aside, I don't see him being a viable 2B in 2019 & into 2020. (Is there a reason we haven't seen him in ST yet?) If Pedey isn't available we will have three (or maybe all four ) IF spots available going into 2019. I have some reservations about Chavis because of his "baggage" and fortunately that's not my decision to make, but if he stays I can see him at 2B almost by default because IMO neither Dalbec nor Devers are quick enough to play 2B. As to who plays 1B or 3b... it doesn't matter on offense but I like Dalbec at 1B because of his size. I played in the IF for a few years with a 1B who was 6'10" and knowing that if I could get the ball anywhere near the base he'd catch it made my life a lot easier.
  9. We must like it. We put up with it. When we start ignoring trolls they eventually go away.
  10. WHAT?? Are you saying that everyone can see what's posted on line?? OMG!! The next thing I'm going to be told is that it stays there forever!
  11. As little as I like to engage someone whom I think is (unknowingly) trolling... Jax has had a lot to say about the alleged comparative inferiority of the Sox offense, defense, starting pitching, and the BP as viewed through the pinstriped glasses. Now I'm waiting to see how he can justify Aaron Boone being a better manager than Alex Cora. Or are the Yankees so much better than the Sox in every facet of the game that it just won't matter that Cora is undoubtedly a better manager?
  12. IMO Chavis is rapidly making a name for himself. While I'm aware that folks put too much emphasis on ST offense, at the same time three HR's is three HR's. However, a player's defense is what it is and Chavis is looking like a real 3B-man. In yesterday's game alone he ranged to his left to cut off a ball in front of the SS and save a hit, and later went high in the air to pull down an errant throw from the catcher. BTW, he appears to have a great arm, too, throwing a 'frozen rope' from 3B to cut down a runner on a close play at 1B. I'm beginning to think in terms of Chavis @ 3B & Devers @ 1B next season. And yeah, Moon, the PED thing bothers me too, but....
  13. Ya. I still do the game threads here but they're not the same as "the fraternity". LOL. "Those were the days, my friend, We thought they'd never end". Do you have any idea why I can't send you a PM? I'd like to catch up with you a bit.
  14. Hey Jete!! How's life?
  15. It's there and running, but when it gets down to about 5 seconds they shut it off do it really doesn't matter.
  16. What a shame. I met him at ST a few years ago. He was very approachable. There I was,an absolute NOBODY in his world, and he to took almost a half hour to talk about the Sox with me. And BTW, I was in way over my head in that conversation and he took the time to talk with me anyway. Nick was a class guy and will be missed.
  17. I wish I'd said this^^^.
  18. I wish I'd said that! There's enough flexibility there between the two of them to fill any spot except pitcher. Add a #4/#5 outfielder and we could be set to go.
  19. Something that's equally impressive to me is to see the camera on JBJ immediately after the ball is hit, then turning his back on the ball, running to 'the spot', then turning and waiting for the ball to come down.
  20. If it's impossible to prove then it's also impossible to disprove.
  21. You're killing me here! You're down there watching the workouts and I'm sitting here watching it snow.
  22. Typical Yankees fan.
  23. Iglesias? Really? First of all, the guy can't hit. Secondly, he's not all that good defensively. He has a penchant for making great plays but can't make the routine ones dependably. At least that's what I've always heard.
