  1. Understatement of the week. :D Edit-> Hey! I just got promoted to AAA!!
  2. I found late August and September to be very entertaining last year. The kids were playing and doing well, and the games were easier to watch when I had no expectations for a win. Every win was a pleasant surprise.
  3. 2 speculations: It's known that NESN and Orsillo had a dispute during his most recent negotiatons and NESN gave in to him. or I've heard speculation that Joseph Aboud may have had something to do with it. Don and Jerry were hammering him pretty hard about his nice tan several games in a row, And Aboud IS a major sponsor.. or something.,
  4. Agree. Completely. It's not a decision that can be reversed in September.
  5. You need to reestablish your priorities, young man!
  6. He seems more relaxed, happier. No pressure, just having fun.
  7. Yeah. I wish I hadn't said anything!! LOL
  8. If I'm an Oakland fan I'm asking why Gray is still in there. Is the manager asleep??
  9. Yes. This is why I keep cautioning about putting too much faith in prospects. Most of them don't pan out. It's also why I'm not prepared to give Benintendi a spot in the outfield until he proves he can play at the ML level.
  10. FWIW, the games Wright have started have lasted an average 2:51 with 4 of them lasting 3:09 or less. 2 of them were less than 2:30 including the one last night (2:27)
  11. Well, if two stat sites say it then it must be right. /s/ If they start telling us that Pedey is only a mediocre second baseman do we believe that too?
  12. Hahahahaha. I'd LOVE to see their criteria for that! Ask me again why I have no faith in WAR.
  13. My name (here) is S5Dewey and I completely agree with this post.
  14. I agree. IMHO a lot of RSDD's very good points are being overshadowed by his assertion that Sandoval was "smoked up". The arguments would be a lot more credible if he'd focus on what we all know and can see.
  15. Now wait a minute here! Sandoval was given every chance to start this season. He was the prohibitive favorite to be the 3rd baseman on opening day - and he blew it. The issue isn't his size or the strength of his belt, it's that 1) Sandoval didn't play well and 2) Travis Shaw outplayed him in ST. The ONLY justification for Sandoval starting at 3rd on opening day would be that he was making so much money he had to play, which is very possibly the worst reason for someone to be starting. I'm willing to buy the rest of your defense that he's always "played large" when he was 'large' but please don't be telling me that he wasn't given every chance this spring.
  16. The thing about a great defensive player is that you don't realize how good he is until he's gone, and even then you can't quantify it.
  17. I hear you, and as a Red Sox fan I have to agree. However, I think we tend to overrate our prospects much like everyone else does. Now let me ask you this. If you were the Angels and were offered two prospects, one in A ball & one in AAA, as the best players in a trade for Mike Trout, would you take it?
  18. Let me put it this way: I think you're living in a fantasy world if you think the Angels would settle for a bunch of high minor leaguers and marginal major leaguers, but if they do I'm all in. To answer your question, I'm confident that I wouldn't give up enough to get him. IMHO any trade between the Sox and the Angels regarding Trout has the potential to leave the fans of both teams unhappy.
  19. Hmmm... has anyone noticed that sarcasm doesn't always carry well on line?
  20. As I understand it, RSDD, we can start threads about Bogaerts and how good he is but we can't start any threads about the fact that he's better than Iggy. Anyway, my new attitude is that I'm not starting any more threads. I'll just leave that up to the people whose sandbox I invaded and comment on those threads until I get all the rules straight.
  21. I'm with you. If some other team had a young GG caliber CF who was hitting .277/.838 we'd be salivating if we had a chance to get him. Now some folks want to trade him? If they want to trade someone who's good why not Bogaerts? Why not Mookie? Why not Vazquez? These are four guys you build teams around. It makes as much sense to trade one of them as it does to trade JBJ.
  22. I don't know that any specific number was made public but Pete Abraham reported the Sox were negotiating with the goal of the final number being in the neighborhood of $100M. That's more than I'd be willing to pay him today.
  23. I don't get all the nasty comments about Ellsbury. We should be THANKING him for not taking the offer the Sox extended to him. I wouldn't want him now for what the Sox offered him then.
