  1. To put the best spin possible on the situation after Tuesday night's loss..... On Sunday night the Sox had a two game lead on both the O's and the Jays. After Monday's and Tuesday's games they still do, and we're two games closer to the end of the season. We didn't gain any ground, but we didn't lose any either.
  2. True enough. In a one week span they went from being two games ahead of the Sox to being two games behind them. A four game swing in a week. Gotta give the fan base credit thought, they're still turning out in droves.
  3. Holy Crap I'm tired of watching this same Southwest commercial over and over and over!!
  4. But.. if the game ends like this with the Sox only scoring three runs, you can't send your starter out there and tell him that he can't give up more than two runs.
  5. I'm not sure if there's a good time for him to have a game like this, but tonight seemed to be an unusually bad time.
  6. Yep. Regardless of what happens this loss - if we DO lose - can't be blamed on the pen.
  7. And then again.... I could be wrong! LOL
  8. I'm not sure Noe Ramirez is the guy I'd have in there in this situation
  9. This friggin umpire has gotten more consistent as the game has gone on. The hitters don't know what each pitch is going to be
  10. For a team that looked to be catching-rich at the beginning of the season AND found a gem in Leon this team sure has a couple of weak links at backup catchers now.
  11. Three more AB's. We'll score some more. It's still up to the pen to keep us in the game.
  12. C'mon. Lets get a run or two in here
  13. FFFFFF-k Schowalter! His move last night of asking for a review of the play at first when the outcome of the game wasn't remotely in doubt was one of the most bush-league things I've ever seen a manager do. I'm hoping the Sox put up 20 tonight and Pom-pom throws a no-no, just in retaliation. You noticed that it didn't take long for the guys in NY to say, "Are you out of your f***ing mind? This game is over and everyone knows it. Now shut up and go home."
  14. Sure, but the big little word in that post is "if". Just as I'd listen if the Nats wanted to trade Scherzer (WAR = 6.0), I'd listen if the Guardians wanted to get rid of Kluber (WAR = 6.2) for Bradley (WAR = 4.9). But it ain't gonna happen, probably mostly because the receiving team would want even more of our players in return. And remember that .856 OPS? Well, Papi isn't going to be around next year and we're going to need those guys with their OPS >8.0 to pick up the slack.
  15. ...and we certainly wouldn't want to collect too many of those potential Top 10 players! As I said elsewhere, we've got 3-4 players now that a team is built around. This team now is dealing from a position of strength - we're not out there hoping to hornswoggle some GM into trading us the next JBJ. We've GOT the next JBJ. In addition to that our rotation is looking solid going into 2017. It makes no sense to me for us to intentionally downgrade ourselves in one position to improve our #3 or #4 pitcher - who's already adequate - because we have another player with potential. As I've said before I'm open to trading ANYONE for a Max Scherzer, but teams who have a Scherzer-like pitcher aren't going to trade him. And I'm very against trading one of our 3-4 young players for a pitcher who has the potential to be Scherzer-like. I've seen too many of them flame out.
  16. Thanks. Just one more reason to not trade him.
  17. Sidebar here: It's reputed that Satchel Page was asked at one time, "Don't you wish you'd had a chance to pitch against the best players of your time?", and he replied, "What makes you think I didn't?"
  18. Pitchers are more of a gamble than position players. No GM is going to trade a REAL CY caliber pitcher for an outfielder. CY pitchers are in very short supply, even potential ones.
  19. We've got several guys on that team who could get us a lot in return, but the conversation always seems to start with JBJ. Nobody ever says anything BAD about his defense. At the end of the day it's his defense that makes him as valuable as he is. He's hitting about .275 with an OPS just over .800 - good, but not 'unheard of' good. For some reason people seem to think that some other GM will look at that defense and say, "This is exactly what we need" and DD will say, "Naw, we don't need that". It all comes back to what I keep harping on - Defense Is Important. As important as offense.
  20. As with most things, we tend to compare what actually happens with our expectations. It's more than possible that our expectations were a bit too high, given that he's never seen a pitch in AAA. He'll be fine. Not this year and maybe not until the ASB next year, but he'll be fine. He has too much talent and ability to NOT be fine.
  21. Barring a GG 1B with an OPS of ~.900 falling into our laps, I agree with this. I've always said that one of the keys to winning is being solid defensively up the middle and sacrificing offense at those positions if necessary, and the opposite at the corner positions.
  22. Why are some people so hot on trading JBJ??? Is it because they continually undervalue the defensive side of his game? Him, Mookie, Bogaerts are people you build a team around, not people you trade away! DD tried to trade for JBJ when he was in Detroit. I doubt that he's going to want to trade him away now.
  23. Ya. That was my first clue, too.
  24. I'm not sure what you mean by giving him some work. I don't want to risk losing any games in which we're leading just so he can get some work, and as good as our offense can be I don't want to be throwing in the towel early in a game just because we're down by 5-6 runs. I agree that he has major league swing and miss stuff, but he also has "major league" miss-the-plate stuff.
  25. Probably not enough to sign him. Especially for the money he's going to want.
