  1. That's a good point. IMO it goes more to team construction than anything else. In thinking about the possibilities we have Vazquez, Rutledge, Young & d'Arnaud. I'd throw the first two of those names out as they're probably not much faster than Leon, and I know little to nothing about d'A's speed. Young might have been a good choice though. It sure would be nice to have a speed merchant on that bench but I guess you can't have everything. Maybe we should have kept Buch for situations like that.
  2. He'd be expensive in terms of prospects, especially since he's in our own division. But he's sure worth kicking the tires on.
  3. Well, I have a friend who insisted that a certain player was on the DL because he had a "torn labia" in his shoulder.
  4. Fair enough. I also don't want my team to be known for giving opposing fans the finger.
  5. And here's another one that's been grinding my gears lately - "One of the only...". Something cannot be "one of the only". It can be one of the FEW but "only" is an exclusive property indicating ONE. The only way something can be "one of the only"is if it is the only one.
  6. Aha. Now TC is mentioning Jones' gesture toward the fans!
  7. I ran it back and watched it four times during the commercial. No doubt. The Finger - upward arm motion included. Classy guy.
  8. I've got TiVo and ran Jones' catch back. He gave the CF Sox fans "the finger" after his catch. Classy
  9. So they pissed away three runs with three errors in the top of the 8th, then come back with a stupid base running error in the bottom of the 8th to keep them out of contention. CAN ANYBODY HERE PLAY THIS GAME?
  10. So whaddaya think? Is it a coincidence that the O's hit Mookie and the Sox fall apart?
  11. I never thought he was THE answer but I thought he was AN answer. What I know for sure is we can't keep this s*** up.
  12. It's decision time for me. It's either going to be a glass of wine or a glass of Jack Daniels, and the way this thing is going the Jack is looking better all the time.
  13. If this every comes to fruition, include me!
  14. I refuse to go down this road!! LOL
  15. You probably give people s*** about calling something an "ATM Machine" too, then.
  16. ROFL!! It's all good, my friend!
  17. Do you think that's an exaggeration? What will happen if the Sox hit someone tomorrow night?
  18. ...and takes blankets to homeless people and bottle-feeds kittens, too.
  19. "it's over" ******** Maybe if he'd hit Mookie the first time he tired to, but it became pretty obvious the second time.
  20. OB is gushing about Flaherty and his accomplishments and here's one more. His American Legion team won the National Championship the summer after Flaherty was graduated from Deering High School. Four players on that team got drafted by a MLB team but AFAIK Flaherty is the only one still in pro ball.
  21. ?? Then what is a significant sample size for determining the likelihood of a Christian Vazquez hitting a curve ball from a right handed batter? And is it different from his hitting a curve ball from a left handed batter? If so, why? Is it the same for a replacement player hitting a curve ball from a right/left handed batter?
  22. It's a good thing you and I go back to the old BDC days together or I'd take that personally!
  23. ??? Obviously it's situational. Picture this: Red Sox up by 2 runs, 7th inning, one out, two runners on base for Baltimore, Machado, Trumbo, & Davis due up. Who would you rather have to get those guys out and preserve the lead, Kimbrel, Ross, or Kelly?
  24. I'll tell you what I think. I think there are two groups who want for this to stay the way it is, with a designated closer. There's the manager who now doesn't have to be second-guessed for not using his closer in the 6th, even if the team lost the game. And there's the "closer" who can get a lot more respect (and money!!) for being a successful designated closer than he ever could for being a guy who comes in to put out the fire in the 7th and then leaving the game. But that's JMO, and a bit cynical one.
  25. All of which are relatively SSS's! This is what I meant when I said a person can drive themselves nuts with statistics. Given the sample size, do you really think anything meaningful can be gleaned from comparing how they do against a left-handed fast ball vs. a right handed curve? And then putting a right handed fast ball vs a left handed curve? And vice versa? Remember, there are four permutations of this now.
