  1. Perhaps I need to be more succinct. I never said this team would be completely hapless without Betts and Price. Those are your words, not mine, so please don't put words into my mouth. It's not sanitary. I would always bet against any team winning the WS before the season starts. However, I would be inclined to bet a LARGER sum of money on the Sox not winning the WSC without Betts and Price than I would if they were still on the team. Another
  2. I think the team would "survive" if they traded both Betts and Price. They'd still be there at 4 Jersey Street, Boston, MA 02215, but I don't think they'd win the WS. In fact, I'd bet against it.
  3. I would never say that a team has no chance of winning any individual game or any series of games. I've seen some very unexpected things happen in MLB. But I would say that I'd bet against the Sox winning the WS if both Betts and Price get traded provided, of course, they don't find some way to land Trout and a TOL pitcher - which is quite unlikely in itself!
  4. "What if they trade Betts and Price and then win the World Series anyway?" "Sure, anything can happen. Sale and Eovaldi might not miss a start between them..." "And I might flap my arms and fly to the moon..." Yep. And there's about the same chance of both of those scenarios coming true.
  5. Maybe we'll all get free hamburgers!
  6. I said some time ago that they were going to hold on to one or the other of Bradley and Betts.
  7. I believe I've come firmly down on the side of "YES" to answer that question. If there's one thing I'm certain of it's that if the Sox go down that path and win the WS in 2020 there are going to be a lot of posters proclaiming that it was the smart thing to do and they were advocating it all along.
  8. I realize this probably doesn't belong on a Red Sox board, but I'd hate to see our resident Yankees fan miss anything negative about his team just as he's sure we don't miss anything negative about a Sox player. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/yankees/2020/01/02/domingo-german-yankees-suspension-domestic-violence/2797565001/
  9. But if through some sickening scenario Betts got moved to the Yankees Judge would be gone in a New York minute.
  10. Serous answer: Because fans of other teams who post here are attempting to put the worst possible spin on anything Sox related. There's a word for that but from what I hear that word doesn't apply to anyone who posts on this board. I'd suggest we go with the one that has the best past record and apparently that's Cots.
  11. That's true, but 5GG makes a good point when he talks about teams being unable to keep their homegrown fan-favorite players. An exemption from LT salary for those players who were drafted by the parent club would make it possible for those players to remain where they might want to stay and at the same time it wouldn't prevent the club from trading a player whose salary exceeds his production.
  12. My point was that the chance of all three pitchers coming back next strong year is the same as having all three pitchers go down with injuries last year... less than 15% - but it happened. And if those odds got beaten in 2019 they can be beaten again in 2020.
  13. I see this as likely to happen as what happened last year when the top three collapsed.
  14. If I'm a player I'm more interested in the median salary than the average salary. The base is set but the top isn't. If the average salary goes up but the median salary doesn't it means that the rich are getting richer at the expense of the other players.
  15. There's a lot to be said for this ^^^ post. Price isn't Mr. Rogers and a ray of sunshine on his good days. If he ends up playing for a team that made him feel unwelcome by trying to trade him...
  16. I still think JBJ's future in Boston - or lack of it - is dependent on whether the FO can peddle Mookie at a price they can live with. CF & RF in Fenway aren't places you want two players who aren't familiar with the real estate at the same time.
  17. Trolls are like stray cats. If you feed them they keep coming back.
  18. I agree completely with this ^^ post. Everyone does a cost/benefit analysis on everything they buy. In JH's case it was worth putting up with DD as long as the $$$$ kept flowing in and bragging rights were maintained. When revenues went down and the team was barely competitive keeping DD and his "management style" weren't worth it any more.
  19. 81, 90, 95, 100. Rinse, repeat.
  20. The last time I saw anyone mention the 2013 championship (by reference) is the last time I read a post by Bellhorn. Time (and more WSC's) keep any single one from being focused on. It's the WSC's taken in the aggregate now that we talk about. Flags DO fly forever.
  21. And me.
  22. What I find particularly amusing is a Yankees fan who comes to a Red Sox board to "stir things up" and then accuses a Red Sox fan of trolling HIM! LOL
  23. To quote Jacko, "You're delusional". Being a Yankees fan and not being a troll are not exclusive properties.
  24. I'm curious about something. Do you have time to post on a Yankees board too, or do you spend all of your online time here telling us how great the Yankees are and pointing out all the deficiencies the Sox have as compared to the Wonderful Yankees (who haven't won a WSC - or even been in the WS - in the past 10 years?
  25. Now I know for sure that we can't afford Porcillo.
