  1. My bad. On Mookie's play he dropped the ball in the bullpen.
  2. Beni caught the ball and came back onto the field with a little help of a table just outside the fence. He never left the field
  3. Isn't that exactly what Mookie did his rookie year and it was a HR?
  4. And BTW, in my neck of the woods at least, when the word "Sucks" was first used with a negative connotation the entire phrase was "sucks donkey dicks", and I forbade my kids to use it, It was only when "sucks" lost the part about the donkeys and became part of the lexicon that I relented and allowed its use. Now it's part of our country's language.
  5. Of course it is! Communication has two parts to it - the giver of the communication and the receiver of it. When a person says "F" rather than "f***" they're intending the receiver to know that the F is replacing is f***. You may or may not be offended by the word f*** but calling it F is no less offensive to the person hearing it than the word itself. ...and why do things this obvious need explanation? Are we completely bereft of common sense??
  6. And speaking of Pedey getting hurt, is that the same knee/leg that Machado f***ed up?
  7. Aren't both parties making blind offers? That is, they don't know what the other is offering. If so, saying that the Sox can give Bogaerts as little as possible isn't quite true. They have to make a reasonable offer, not as little as possible under the guidelines.
  8. I believe that Price believes that it's all the press' "fault" for reporting the news and in the process being critical of him. He doesn't like the press and the press doesn't like him, and the press is a big part of playing in Boston. When I see/listen to his post-game interviews I get the impression that he's saying what he's programmed to say and that he doesn't really mean it. He's simply saying, "Here's what I need to say. Now get out of my face." He doesn't seem to like the intense spotlight in Boston, especially when it turns negative - which I don't blame him for. I mean, who would like that?? I'm beginning to think that he's now coming to grips with the fact that he thrives best in low-pressure situations where he can exceed expectations and Boston may not be the best place for him. As to the Eck thing, I know there are exceptions to this (Yankees, A's of the past) but usually discord in the clubhouse will lead to poor performance on the field. As fans we expect solid performance on the field, something there hasn't been much of lately, we're looking for reasons/excuses for it. The dust-up on the plane takes care of that for us.
  9. Yes, this. It seems that there's a lot of revisionist history being done here. At the time of the trade Shaw had two back-to-back terrible half-seasons. He had few pitch selection skills and was lunging at outside fast balls. We had every reason to believe that the Travis Shaw we were seeing at the time was the real Travis Shaw so he got traded for a solid (we thought) reliever. Then the Sox signed Sandoval - who was grossly overpaid but at least serviceable (we thought) to fill the 3B slot vacated by Shaw's training. To capsulize, we had every reason to believe that with the exception of Sandoval's salary the right moves were being made but instead we went 0-3. Who would have thought that would happen?? IMHO the two biggest mistakes the FO made were agreeing to pay Sandoval what they did, and not having any sniff of a backup plan if things didn't work out at 3B.
  10. In which case we'd probably remain on the hook for at least half of his salary and get little real value in return since every manage would know that Price is demanding to get out of Boston. Ugh. That's probably a worst case scenario, but not outside the realm of probability. The more I think about this, the worse it sounds. Double Ugh.
  11. Here's a scenario to ponder. Price could go down now, get TJ surgery, be out all of next year, then opt out of his contract and never pitch again for the Sox. I don't expect that to happen because of the money he'd be leaving on the table but if he's as unhappy in Boston as he appears to be it is an option for him.
  12. Whoa just a minute there! I usually take Jax comments with a grain of salt but this one steps over the line. Tell me, what does a player's family history have to do with his performance? This is nothing but a cheap shot intended to disparage a player who may be trying to get out of a bad situation. I thought Jax was better than that.
  13. Meh. There are different levels of outrage.
  14. IMO this post is a lot like shooting the messenger, with the media being the messenger. We've got two players on this team who've acted like absolute douches this year, one of them doing it once (or twice?) and the other has made a season of doing it. When we begin to accept this as acceptable behavior we're also condoning it. Maybe this stuff happens all the time and we don't hear about it - or maybe it doesn't - but if it does our not hearing about it doesn't make it any less egregious. I believe that as some of the people who are 'paying the freight' for this team we have a right to be outraged when the players don't live up to our standards and this is our only place to vent the frustration. In light of all of this, while I care about this team in terms of wins and losses I'm finding it harder and harder to 'care' about the personnel on the team. That may be why I'm not staying up late to watch the end of the games and it may be part of the reason I haven't been to Fenway this year, but whatever it is all I want this team to do is STFU and play ball. That's all.
  15. Ya gotta like Spud's posts. He tells it exactly like it is!
  16. I don't dispute what you're saying. I find what's going on to be objectionable going back to "It's not me, it's them" and I'm tired of hearing John Farrell trying weakly to apologize for them. However.... I find it difficult to root against the Sox. I will say that this is becoming a harder and harder team to like.
  17. It's not a matter of his hurting the team. Given who he's replacing I don't see him hurting the team. I also don't see him helping the team, and if he's not going to help the team we should stay with the status quo.
  18. Agree.
  19. "Meanwhile, the Red Sox have a new boarding policy for their broadcast media. In an effort to minimize potential conflict, folks from WEEI and NESN board first and go to the rear of the aircraft before the players board". This isn't going to accomplish anything other than to prolong the hard feelings. Everyone involved needs to talk it out even if it means they agree to disagree. And to think, I was concerned that Sale was going to be the clubhouse problem. :-(
  20. Start reading several paragraphs down, next to the Boston Globe logo http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/here%E2%80%99s-the-narrative-of-what-went-down-between-david-price-and-dennis-eckersley/ar-AAoIB2B?OCID=ansmsnnews11
  21. DD seems to have gotten the blame from some posters here for the Tigers not winning the WS during his tenure there.
  22. Price is 1-8 in 9 starts with an ERA of ~6.00 and has had one good playoff year since 2008. While it is only 9 starts I don't see how anyone can dismiss that kind of continued failure as a "small sample size". The thing about trying to draw any conclusions from playoff performance is that there are going to be so few games that it will always be a SSS. At some point don't we have the right to expect Price to not pitch well in the playoffs because of his past history? And don't get me wrong... I like having Price on the team. As I've said before, he's been the kind of guy who can get you there but can't get you out the other side, and I'd rather get there than not. I just tend to have realistic expectations as to what he's going to do in the playoffs.
  23. I agree with this post. That is, everything except the last sentence.
  24. This, absolutely. If the team is going to make a change at least this is the right change.
