  1. Ok. that's fair. But it's true, and I didn't say "never". This, like everything else, will pass.
  2. ..and here's one reason I don't post much here anymore. Everyone wants to use stats to make their point, even when they're being hypocritical When it's posted that a player has an OPS of >.750 for August so he should be playing it's dismissed as a small sample size, but when that person who called SSS wants to make a case for playing a player with an OPS of .750 for August it's ok. I know that some of us don't believe "hot hands" and believe that the frequency of hits is "random". I also know that I'm probably statistically "wrong" but when I see a guy coming to bat who's 12 for his last 15 I think he has a better chance of getting a hit than a player who's 0 for his last 15. Color me crazy, I guess.
  3. I'm hoping for that curve in the dirt again.
  4. It is amazing how he can go on one of his tears and carry an OPS of 1.20 for a short time, and then go ice cold.
  5. They're one swing of the bat away now.
  6. I thought Devers was going to be meat when he rounded third - and he would have been if the throw had been accurate. He scored on the bad throw.
  7. That's the way I always felt it was about Mario Rivera. The Sox saw him so many times that eventually they got used to seeing him and knew what he had.
  8. IMO the only one of the three who's hurt their bargaining power is Bogaerts. Bradley was a big question mark after last year and wouldn't have commanded a huge contract anyway. Mookie is just the opposite and he's struggling this year offensively but his D is still solid. He still has his tools and I expect him to become himself again. Bogaerts OTOH has been a disappointment this year on both sides of the ball. My guess is that the Sox are pleased that they haven't signed him to anything long-term yet.
  9. I hope people remember JBJ's defense the next time someone talks about trading him.
  10. My bad. Given the circumstances it felt like that at the time though.
  11. Since this may be my last chance this year to relive this memory, every time I see Karton Wong come to bat I can't help but think of Wong getting picked off 1B to end the World Series. At least as priceless was the look on Beltran's face immediately after it happened. It spoke volumes titled "YOU. DUMB. f***!" LOL
  12. Don't get me wrong, I love the running game. I like to see a team put the pressure on the defense. However, there is an adage in baseball that the lower the league you are coaching in, the more your team should run. That is, Little Leaguers should run rampant, High school players less, college players even less, and, well, MLB is at the top of that list so they should run the least. And of course that's because of the defense. Usually even a "bad arm" in MLB would be pretty darn good anyplace else. I don't take many issues with the planned running the Sox do. It's the crazy things that some players do on their own like trying to stretch a single off the wall into a double that bothers me. (Or trying to get from 2B to 3B on a ball that's hit in front of them! UGH!!)
  13. If I can read lips at all what he said was what Pedey's reaction is to anything good. "f*** YEAH!!"
  14. ...which is the second highest on the team. Interestingly, according to BR his oWAR is higher than his dWAR, but... whatever.
  15. Yup. Me too. There were a few of us who were saying that JBJ would be a plus player overall even if his BA were in the .220 range. In addition to his cutting down a runner at the plate last night I also saw a time later in the game when he handled a base hit in RCF and the runner on 1st stopped at 2B rather than challenge his arm. JBJ is the real deal. If fans as a whole put as much emphasis on defense as they do on offense everyone would see it.
  16. I 'ran back' the play and watched it several times, It appeared that Molina had the toe of his left foot in front of the plate and once he got the ball he pivoted the left leg to block the plate with it the same way XBo blocked 2B on a pickoff play recently. It's a great move.. if it's legal. IMO JBJ had no access to the plate other than to go around Molina's leg.
  17. Does anyone but me find it a bit tasteless that one of NESN's sponsors is now doing spots heralding Jerry Remy? Jerry's 'a tough ol' bird' and Jerry may well be saying next season (to paraphrase Mark Twain) "Implications of my death have been greatly exaggerated". IMO we should be just wishing him the best and saving spots like that just in case things don't work out as well as we hope.
  18. I don't think the pitching is 'all that bad' but OTOH I do agree that it may not hold up in the playoffs. My bigger concern is the straight-up lack of fundamentals, the little things that don't always show up in the book but can make a difference, e.g. forgetting how many outs there are! My even bigger concern is our manager. I think he's a good enough manager for the regular season but if he gets into the ring mano-a-mano with Tito or the like only one of them is going to walk away, and it won't be John Farrell. The good news is that we're now "worried" about what happens to the Sox in the playoffs, and we all know that anything... or something strange.... can happen in the playoffs so our chances are [almost] as good as anyone's. If we get there. BTW, I see you've added a second great sig line!
  19. ::Giving my head a good hard shake:: HUH? LOL
  20. We would have been if it hadn't been for.... how does Moon put it?... Chris Freakin' Sale!
  21. Agreed. Every time!
  22. It sounds like you're saying that intangibles (such as "clutch") do exist and are are evidenced in that slash line. I asked the question some time back whether a hitter has good stats because he's "clutch", or if the player wasn't clutch but just a "good hitter". It looks like you've answered that. Some players have good stats because they're clutch!
  23. You're assuming that there are such things as "intangibles" which will affect a player's performance.
  24. Cry me a river, baby!
