  1. Vaz is playing well. Leon may have been asked to take one for the team today. My guess is that we won't see him again for a bit.
  2. Thanks Sox. Now lets hope they hold on for the win. NH does that? That's lame. :-(
  3. I was thinking about that earlier today. It must suck to be a White Sox fan. Especially with the Cubbies doing well. What are the chances of WS fans defecting? (Or is that like a Red Sox fan defecting to the Yankees? )
  4. He gambled that the throw was going home.... and lost. A runner simply cannot do that unless he's sure the ball will go through. He's almost as well off at 2B as at 3B.
  5. Some dink hits have made Fister look worse than he's pitched. Let's hope that s*** doesn't continue into the next inning.
  6. So true. I've seen high school players get chewed out for trying to advance to third on a ground ball hit in front of them.
  7. Thanks. That's good news (for me). If he's happy in that role than I'm happy.
  8. The curve on a curve ball is real. It's caused by the spin on the ball creating a low pressure zone in front of the ball that the ball "falls into". So why is it so incomprehensible that a fast ball can rise a little with the proper spin on the ball?
  9. I do too, but I expect the same respect in return.
  10. Hmmm... that's an interesting observation. And our record is almost exactly the same as it was last year at this time.
  11. I don't see JBJ's defense decline significantly in the near future. I do realize that much of his defense appears to depend on his speed and speed is the first to go, but he also has the ability to turn his back on the ball and run to the spot where the ball will come down, That in itself will compensate for some of his decline in speed when it happens. I see his defense at age 35 to be different from his defense at age 30 in that at 35 he'll be arriving at "the spot" at the same time as the ball rather than being there waiting for the ball like he is now.
  12. I kinda wish they'd do something with Butler. Either trade him or let him become a FA if necessary to give that guy a chance. It seems like he's been mired in Portland and then Pawtucket forever, watching Vaz and Swihart move past him and seeing the Sox sign Hannigan and Leon. He may be nothing more than a AAAA catcher or he may be able to start for some second division team but he'll be 31 in October and needs an opportunity to find out who he is. Is he blocking someone else? Is our catching so shallow behind him that we have to keep him where he is for insurance?
  13. I know. I wish we could get these players, ex-players, and broadcasters to come to this site so we could educate them that there is no such thing as clutch, momentum, or lineup protection because they keep talking about it as if it actually exists.
  14. "It's a semi-true story, believe it or not, Some parts I remember and the rest I made up" -Jimmy Buffett.
  15. I got that. Mine too.
  16. You needed stats to tell you THAT???
  17. This may be "the new normal" in baseball, for a team to have a 3-4 year window followed by a 3-4 year period of rebuilding. If so, I can handle that. One of my most entertaining seasons was the last half of 2015, the last half of the downswing. After Lovello took over, watching Mookie, JBJ, et.al. play the game like they were enjoying it was pleasurable for me. As I said, I can handle the rich years/lean years cycle. IMO it's far better than being continually mired in 3rd place year after year while the GM continues to play musical chairs with the talent, trying not to lose but also not being committed to winning it all. [Hear that, Ben?]
  18. I had a tag line on the old BDC site that said, "Having the right to do something doesn't make it the right thing to do". That's appropriate here.
  19. So now it's the passenger's fault?
  20. And if your wife goes through a green light and gets T-Boned by someone going through the red light do you chastise her for not stopping and looking both ways at the intersection? We have a right to expect someone to obey the law (or make the right call). I don't dispute that JBJ should have run through the bag, but blaming the 1B coach is...again... silly.
  21. There's nothing easier than second-guessing someone. In the real world the 1B coach in MLB is not going to stand there and yell "Runthroughthebag, Runthroughthebag, Runthroughthebag" every time a popup is hit. That's something that's learned at the Little League level. Blaming the 1B coach in that situation is silly. The two screwups on that play were 1) the umpire not calling the Infield Fly on that play, and 2) the players assuming that the umpire would make the right call. I find it much easier to forgive the players because they shouldn't have to make a habit of confirming every call with the umpire. They're experienced. They KNOW what the right call is. The umpires screwed it up. Move on.
  22. In fact, I think Gomes used exactly those word in the game last night. But what's he know anyway? He only played MLB for 13 years.
  23. "It's not me, it's them" aside, it still irks me that the leg/knee Pedey is having trouble with is the same one Machado f***ed up with his cheap shot. It strikes me as the football mentality of "the sooner we can get their key players out of the game the better chance we have of winning."
  24. I agree completely with this. I may have said this before, but as a former infielder who had a 1B who was 6'10", knowing all I had to do was get the ball somewhere near 1B and it would be caught took all the pressure off the throw in a close situation. In addition, he was also a foot (or more) closer to me when catching my throws than would someone who's 6' tall be. That doesn't sound like much in an amateur league but it can be all the difference in a MLB play that's reviewed.
  25. You were a step ahead of me, JB. Sorry.
