  1. I think you are right. The Sox starters did the job last season but it does look like the trend to heavy bullpen use is accelerating. Time to get on board the new way of putting together a pitching staff.
  2. Pearce is done. Never should have been signed for 2019. Moreland is productive, but has been injured too much. Sad to say he must go as Sox got great contributions from him. Porcello had one fluke great season but was always a very hittable pitcher. He can go. I think they should find a way to keep JD. He is a positive presence on this team.
  3. This season demonstrates that baseball is not a strategic game and managers don't win by employing the right strategy.
  4. Best hope is for Sox to "back into" the WC. This team is terrible at run prevention. Most likely this a a countdown to the Sox watching other teams in the playoffs.
  5. Once again, as with JBJ, patience is rewarded. Let's keep this great outfield together!
  6. Beni purposely put on weight prior to the 2018 season in the hope it would help him have more stamina for the long season. This is old news. benintendi-hopes-added-bulk-means-more-homers-
  7. A good closer should not put men on base and run up their pitch count. That is what Kimbrel started doing in 2018. Probably one reason the Sox were willing to let him walk. Kimbrel was a great closer in 2017, when he kept batters off the bases. Top closers do not walk a lot of batters.
  8. Mookie seems to be adjusting his approach lately and it is leading to positive results. I'm now optimistic that he could go on a real tear.
  9. And he is now showing signs of life. Don't break up our outstanding outfield. I just hope the FO finds a way to pay them all enough to do that.
  10. So far, so bad for Eovaldi. This is an experiment, not a solution.
  11. Because he walks too many batters and throws too many pitches per relief appearance. Workman is not a closer.
  12. But that does not negate the statistic as a measure of something.
  13. Which is still not as made up as assigning wins and saves.
  14. It is a run batted in due to a hit or walk. It's not just up to some made up rules about assigning wins or saves. So an RBI is an actual accomplishment that can be rightly credited to an individual hitter. Saves are based on made up requirements that have been different in different times in baseball history. RBI's have pretty much been the same thing through history. Assigning wins can't be shown to be the result of what one pitcher did.
  15. Be patient with Benintendi.
  16. We are in rare agreement here. This nails it. I don't care where my team's players rank, I care about how they fit into the team and what they contribute to the team.
  17. My problem is with the last R considered in the calculation. That number has nothing to do with the numbers generated by actual player performance.
  18. RBI is not made up. The others you mentioned are meaninglessly assigned to a pitcher.
  19. If Eovaldi is going to be strictly used as a closer we may not see too much of him.
  20. Looks like the Sox are heading for a second place finish in the division and not making the playoffs.
  21. Whether or not it is a big deal is irrelevant. It is using numbers that have nothing to do with a players performance generated numbers. It is a made up number. Also, assigning win numbers to individual players is questionable. Teams win and lose as teams that employ team strategies and plans and styles of play.
  22. Eovaldi is not the prototypical anything as a pitcher. He is a journeyman with a history of injury and inconsistency. A classic case of unfulfilled potential. I don't pin any hopes on him coming to the rescue for a team with deeper problems than the lack of a closer.
  23. In all calculations of WAR. You can't calculate it without using made up replacement level numbers.
