  1. Agree. As far as I know, it's been reported that they grew up together in the DR, and that the guy claimed to be delivering something from Hanley's mother. They could be best buds (which a lot of people seem to be more or less assuming), or it could be some old family friend that he rarely sees or talks to. Either way, he won't be the first baseball player to be acquainted with some shady individuals.

  3. I was just thinking the other day about how most of the alternatives that were discussed over the winter have been somewhere from pedestrian to awful thus far. I wanted J.D. all along, but thought someone like Morrison or Duda could be an acceptable fallback option if he and Boras refused to budge on their demands...and well, thank god we didn't go that route. As I've said before, Dombrowski really played all of this perfectly and deserves all the credit for doing so. (The Moreland deal is looking like a wonderful bargain right now, too.)
  4. As opposed to all the names and facts she deployed when starting up the whole firestorm? (/sarc)
  5. I just knew the last few pages of this thread were going to be fun. I'm glad Hanley's good name appears to have been cleared, etc.
  6. Intriguing. It would be nice to have another arm in the system worth following.
  7. Personally, I'd like to see Tzu-Wei Lin get some playing time before even contemplating trading for a second baseman...he's been hitting well in Pawtucket and would be an instant upgrade over Nunez defensively.
  8. What would be your reaction if some other team offered us a hodgepodge of underperforming and/or unwanted veterans, relievers, and bench players for, say, Benintendi or Betts?
  9. I certainly wouldn't argue with bringing Beltre back, but ultimately I think Devers will be fine, and the Sox seem committed to staying patient through his growing pains. Assuming we can probably only make a legitimate upgrade at one spot, I think there should be several higher priorities than third base.
  10. Say it again for the ones in the back! Between the lack of high-end prospects and coming up against the next luxury tax level, this club has shot its wad in terms of big acquisitions. I expect we'll continue to hear some crazy rumors and proposals, but other than perhaps a Ziegler/Reed type deal for a rental setup man (which hopefully wouldn't break us, judging by what Herrera went for), I'm not expecting much.
  11. You'd take 1/2 a year of Machado over 5 1/2 of Devers?
  12. I don't think anyone expects that.
  13. He's having another nice season. Pawtucket pretty soon, hopefully.
  14. I couldn't find if this was posted somewhere else, but the Red Sox got their PTBNL from the Roenis Elias deal: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/06/mariners-trade-eric-filia-red-sox-roenis-elias-ptbnl.html If he has the potential to be a useful bench player for us at some point, that'd seem like a great return for Elias, who had no role and no future in Boston. Perhaps Harmony has some insight on this guy?
  15. Not much buzz surrounding the Red Sox in the international market this year that I can tell. The only top guy we've been connected to is outfielder Eduardo Lopez from the DR: http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2018/?list=int
  16. A win is a win, but it probably shouldn't have taken 12 innings (and required a near-perfect effort from Wright and the 'pen) to grind one out against the Machado-less Orioles. Need to get this offense humming again.
  17. Sooo you trash our current staff, but think we need to target Zack Wheeler (who has worse numbers than Eduardo and has never pitched in the postseason, which is apparently the ultimate indicator of a pitcher's value)? Never mind the question of what prospects we have to make such a deal?

  19. Absolutely...it's always nice to have an influx of new names to follow (particularly this year when the farm has been kind of a dumpster fire).
  20. "Can't miss prospect" is such an awful term, and one I'll never use. I get excited about the draft, new international signings, and so forth each year, but the fact is that at the end of the day most of these kids aren't going to make it...hopefully this year we picked a few who will.
  21. Casas is a swing-for-the-fences type of pick, to be sure. The focus on power in the early rounds with guys like Casas, Decker, Cottam, Granburg, etc. is interesting and feels like a shift from recent drafts. I hope we can sign Northcut, another guy with plus power potential. In the near term, I'm most interested in Feltman.
  22. Aw, man, I was looking forward to a segment on Infowars on why the mainstream media is hiding the truth about Hanley's vesting option.
  23. http://news.soxprospects.com/2018/05/2018draftpreview.html Nice preview from SoxProspects with blurbs on a few potential Red Sox targets.
  24. A noble and heartfelt apology, good sir (penises and all). Have you ever considered a career as a politician?
