  1. I'd like to see him get a chance to bat vs LH'd SP'ers, but not at Refsnyder's expense. We could shuffle some guys around and sit Rafaela vs some lefties, but his defense has been a major boost to this team.
  2. Not much good to talk about in this game. Get 'em, tonight!
  3. Duran's parents issues this statement: “As parents, there’s nothing harder than knowing your child was in pain. We only recently learned the full extent of what Jarren went through, and it was heartbreaking to hear. We are beyond grateful that he is still here, that he has found the courage to keep going, and that he is using his voice to help others. If his story can help even one person, then it was worth sharing. We are incredibly proud of the man he is today and love him more than words can say. We will always be in his corner.”
  4. As much as I am always for upgrading the pitching staff (from the top- not the bottom,) I think adding to our catcher position is a pretty high priority. We seem to have duplicate values at middle infield and outfield, so maybe something happens, this summer or next winter. That being said, I've been pretty high on Narvaez since the trade. I worries about how his OBP would translate to the bigs, but so far, so good, in a tiny sample size. His D has been praised for a while.
  5. Stock DFA'd. Winckowski was added. He is the 16th pitcher to make the 26, this season. Sabol replaces Wong. He is the 14th everyday player making the 26.
  6. Looks like Narvaez will be getting a longer look than planned. Maybe he wins the 60% role.
  7. Okay. I was just responding to a poster who said Slaten has "not looked good early on." I guess that's different from "struggling." 🤪
  8. That is one strategy, but Cora usually does not remove a platoon batter, early or mid game, unless men are on base and the game is close. We'll see what happens, tonight. I know some want to see Abreu get a chance to play FT, and I thought maybe they'd give Rafaela the night off to make it happen, but not this time.
  9. With the lefty going, Cora is continuing to platoon Abreu, like last season. Ref gets the start in RF. Campbell at 2B and Narvaez starts over the injured Wong. Romy vs the lefty. L Duran LF L Devers 3B R Bregman 3B R Refsnyder RF R Story SS R Campbell 2B R Romy 1B R Narvaez C R Rafaela CF Abreu & Casas on the bench may keep the Jays' manager from bringing in a righty.
  10. Yes. We have THU April 17th off.
  11. Slaten has the 4th best OPS Against, this year at .544. Maybe Weissert gets demoted.
  12. We are about 1/15th through the season, and here are the OPS+, so far: 273 Abreu 272 Romy (12 PA) 223 KC 210 (7 PA) 173 Narvaez 163 Bregman 119 Devers 100 Story 79 Duran, 55 Casas, 37 Rafaela, -16 Wong, -39 DHam OPS Against .000 Bernardino .377 Chapman .472 Crochet .544 Slaten .571 Kelly .578 Whitlock .644 Weissert .736 Fitts .890 Criswell, .916 Newcomb, .982 Dobbins, 1.006 Buehler, 1.040 Houck Our SP'er are off to the opposite start as 2024's rotation.
  13. I thought Cora said they gave up on the 6 man idea. Now, we will start having days off.
  14. The whole suspension thing might have set him back a chunk, but he seemed to handle that one, pretty well- considering....
  15. I think Fitts might go, first, and the Newcomb out of options card may come into play on the choice.
  16. Well, when someone "joins," someone gets demoted. I'm not saying Fitts earned a demotion, but he has not done much to impress a longer look, either. When Bello is ready, I see Fitts moving to the pen and "joining" them, or staying stretched out as a starter in AAA. Gio is going to get a chance, unless he aggravates the injury. I'm not sure I'm looking forward to his "joining," but he could still have something in the tank. He's only 30.
  17. If Gio looks shaky in rehab, and Newcomb pitches well in his next few starts, I still think Cora gives Gio a shot. (Bello should replace Fitts, as long as he is healthy, IMO.)
  18. I understand the feelings, here, but most great pitchers get batters to swing at balls out of the K zone or in the K zone, but not that batter's favorite areas. Or, they get them to guess the wrong pitch type or location. I'm not sure Fitts has "the stuff" to challenge the best hitters by just throwing strikes.
  19. It's not just about last night. I'm just not sure he has the stuff to be anything better than a 4/5 SP'er. We could use a good 4/5 pitcher, but there are some not-so-good ones, too. I think he will get another start or two, and even a 3-4 game sample size is not much to work with, but I'd prefer to see Bello, when he is ready. I'm not sure Gio deserves anything, but he will likely get his shot when ready- like it or not.
  20. I know they say mine are almost always right, but which one are you talking about? LOL!
  21. Kinda sorta. More hope than reason. It's a small sample size on Fitts (4.50 ERA and 1.333 WHIP w 8Ks and 0BBs in 12 IP.) Gio's last 2 seasons were very uninspiring and look worse than the Fitts numbers: 4.89/ 1.370, but he's only 30 and had a nice stretch from 2019-2021 (seems so long ago) 3.47 ERA 1.076 WHIP (3.54 FIP) Who knows if he can come close to those numbers from years ago? I'm hoping Bello gets the call, and Newcomb pitches well enough to keep Gio out of the rotation.
