  1. I'm pretty old, too, but I guess, somehow, I learned to embrace change (or at least not fear it). One job a GM has always had is to assign some sort of value to each of his players and to those he's thinking of acquiring.
  2. Some metrics proved he sucked, and he blamed it on them not his own diminished and putrid skills.
  3. Exactly. It doesn't matter if the umps are humans or robots, it's all about the players.
  4. He later got ejected.
  5. Dalbec is really strutting his stuff. Chavis is working on building his trade stock. The Yanks should want him.
  6. Our likely playoff schedule: 4 days off Game 1 Game 2 Off Game 3 Game 4 Off Game 5 If we're down 2-1, we will likely go with the game 1 starter (Sale) on 3 days rest. If we're up 2-1, we'll likely go with our 4th starter. To me, that will likely be Eovaldi or ERod (not Price).
  7. Our last game of the season is September 30th. The AL wildcard game is October 3rd. The first game of the ALDS with the play-in winner is October are 5th. We could start Sale Sept 30 (not that we should) and he'd still be fresh for game 1, as long as we aren't in the WC game.
  8. True, but being a RP'er brings a different approach. Maybe it will help. We all know he needs to do better to hold any job in the pen or anywhere else. I might be the last guy holding out hope he can turn things around in time to help us this year, but he better start real soon, or else he'll have nobody left holding any hope.
  9. Werth sucks. He's bringing down the game.
  10. If our starters in in a groove to finish the season, I might say 1-2. If our pen guys are struggling, maybe it makes the choices easier. A lot can and will happen before game 1.
  11. You know, Eric, the guy who lives in a van down by the river.
  12. ...even if he was getting better every year.
  13. True. Hindsight does show he used in NY, while with Manny, it's just conjecture.
  14. No, they were employed dishwashers when hired.
  15. I think we found out not to let Johnson go 6 or 7 innings. I needed to be tried. If he keeps doing well, maybe we can try again with a big lead, but why mess a good thing again?
  16. Manny was tested numerous times while with the Sox. I'm not saying he was clean his whole career, but nothing proves he used in Boston, and even if he did, Sox fans never cheered him knowing he was a user- like Yankee fans cheered ARod, Clemens and others.
  17. True. Sox fans never knowingly cheered numerous proven or admitted PED users that led us to any rings.
  18. The A's would have the best record in the NL right now! Even the M's would be the second best team by inches.
  19. We're not going to be $39M over the luxury tax every year going forward. Tough choices will have to be made, and people better not blame Henry when he finally pulls on the purse strings. Besides, do we really want our team to become like Steinbrenner's Yankees? (Newsflash: we're heading that way right now.) Of course, I'd love to have Kimbrel back, but not at 10+% of our budget. We'll just have to find another way. If we keep Kimbrel, we'll have to let 1-2 other holes go unfilled...holes where someone pitches 100+ IP or gets up 500+ times in a year.
  20. Johnson sure looks like just a 5 innings guy. Too bad he can't do that in a long relief role. Gotta like how these wins just keep coming. It's been a naysayer's nightmare.
  21. Big difference in offense, if there was one, and the amount of Sox offenses vs Yankee ones. Don't be myopic.
  22. Brandon Phillips (not a prospect) went 4 for 5 with 2 doubles. Shepherd 6 IP 2 ER (9K/ 7H + 1BB) Chavis 2 for 4. Castellanos also went 4 for 4.
  23. We aren't like Yankee fans.
  24. How many times do elite closers fail? (Rivera, especially later in his career, Kimbrel, etc...) 1 out of 10 maybe? How about very good but not elite (and cheaper) closers? 1 out of 8 or 9? I think this is what Kimmi means by close or almost the same.
  25. Umps are monitored by the league, probably like UZR/150 observers who seem to be mistakenly rating some plays.
