  1. He'll be on the IL this year. Book it.
  2. The guys we have brought in or up to replace injured or non performing players have done a very good job over the past few weeks. Holt .921 in last 4 weeks/ .983 last 2 weeks Nunez .708 last 2 weeks Hernandez 4 for 9 Leon .790 last 2 weeks Chavis has done well, but not so great lately. The guy most people have been saying needs to be traded or benched, JBJ, is hitting .928 over the last 4 weeks. and 1.001 the last 2 weeks.
  3. We out scored the Astros in our series loss to them. Yes, bunching runs when we don't need them has been an issue, but it's not like we can trade for a player known to not "bunch runs." 3 runs scored a game vs the top 3 is not good, I agree, but no trade is going to improve our odds of scoring more against them without opening a new hole somewhere else. Should we have traded for Bruce and benched our hottest hitter (JBJ) or Beni? Let's talk specifics: who should we trade for who?
  4. Although Eovaldi just suffered a setback, I think we can count on him being back in time to be a big help. A few from Moreland, Pearce, Lin, Johnson & Wright should give us a boost. We will make a deal or two, but I'm not sure what's out there now. DD should not "panic," and I'm sure he's on the phone a lot. I do not think we need to deal this week. If we pick up a 1Bman or 2Bman, we'll have to cut a big priced player or demote Chavis, when the others get healthy. Wrigh and Johnson are out of options, but we can trade one. The only roster space we have open is with the pitching staff, and they've been doing okay.
  5. Had we not signed Pearce, we could have signed Kimbrel and stayed under the max line. I would not have gone over the line for him, even at 3 years- $30M.
  6. IMO, Kimbrel is on the decline. 3 years is not bad, and the amount is not bad, assuming Kimbrel pitches like 2017, and maybe even 2018 sans the playoffs. The Cubs are in a budget pinch, too, so I see this as spending too much, and his contract will prevent other signings. Just my opinion.
  7. If we can't beat out Texas and Oakland, then we don't deserve a place at the table, and this team is not what I thought they were. We have some budget space to make a move or two (RP? RP? SP?). It was a sad weekend, but there's a lot of games left to be played, and we're right in the thick of the playoff hunt despite playing so badly, so far.
  8. No way was it robbery. The place was packed. The guy walks up from behind, raises the gun and just shoots him in the back and runs away. It was probably a hit to get famous.
  9. The video shows he's siting at a bar or something- very crowded. The guy comes up behind him and just shoots him in the back. People all around him. https://www.barstoolsports.com/video/1335456/the-surveillance-video-of-david-ortiz-being-shot-makes-me-think-it-was-an-attempted-assassination-sensitive-content-obviously
  10. Great game!
  11. JD, Moreland and Pearce are out. Beni sucks vs LHPs and has been slumping. He's the only "what if...?"
  12. My first live game I ever saw was Ernie Banks and the Cubs at Wrigley Field. (I lived in Milwaukee then.) I've always liked the Cubs. I don't need Kimbrel to like them more.
  13. I had hoped he'd at least be as good as 2018.
  14. We'll see. I don't think Beni on the bench was for rest.
  15. I'm happy we had Kimbrel, but he's gone now. I guess I just don't feel the love for ex Sox players that others seem to do. It's not like I hate Kimbrel or am not appreciative, but I don't see how him going to the Cubs makes me like him or the Cubs any more. I'm neutral to wherever he signed, except the Yanks. It might make it harder for us to win it all, if the Cubs make it to the WS, although it would be a good story line.
  16. Yes, tell me why he increases your liking of the Cubs. The Cubs and Pirates have always been my fave NL clubs, but getting Kimbrel does not move me in any direction, except maybe to think Theo is slipping.
  17. Ooops... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/06/nathan-eovaldi-suffers-setback.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook
  18. Kimbrel does nothing to make me root for the Cubs.
  19. Last I heard, Eovaldi is due back around the 15th, so we should just need 1 more start from a scrub. No more double headers for a while. We have June 20th off and then, if I'm reading the schedule right, 2 days off in a row on June 27th & 28th. Two days later, we have another day off, 5 games in a row and then the 4 day All Star break.
  20. Maybe one can give us something meaningful. Add one to Eovaldi's return, and we may get the boost we need.
