  1. Then, it wasn't until we added a "second ace" in Schilling that we took the final step. 1967- only Lonborg 1975- only Tiant 1986- only Clemens 2004- Pedro & Schilling 2007- Schilling & Beckett 2013- Lester & Lackey 2018- Sale & Price
  2. I still watched every pitch of every Sox game this year, again, and although I didn't enjoy 2019 and the 3 last place seasons not too long ago, I like to see championships every few years. It sucks when we are out of it early, and in 2019 I felt we were out of it much earlier than just about anyone else, but I still watched and enjoyed the offense. As long as I think there is a bright future ahead, I can tolerate bad seasons. To me, what hurt most about 2019, beyond having high hopes to start the year, was the fact that we sucked and our future looked bleak. With Bloom on board, I feel better about the future.
  3. The deadline was 8 am. Why no word, yet?
  4. I think it should just be 5-6 games- total on the field.
  5. If Cora was involved, more than just knowing about it, I think he should be suspended for a few games, despite it seemingly hurting one of the teams that may have been hurt by the cheating.
  6. Remember when AGon played RF? Now, that was funny!
  7. Careful, they are watching...
  8. This article projects the Sox protect Dalbec, Chatham, Bazardo, Wilson and Aybar (Ockimey is listed as possible.) https://www.overthemonster.com/2019/11/19/20971637/boston-red-sox-prospects-rule-5-draft-protection My guess is we are active drafting players from other teams... like SD.
  9. I'm not sure being traded for ARod is an insult, but your point is well-taken. Rumor had it that Nomar lied about his spring injury, and the Sox did not call him on it, which in my mind, more than returned the favor. What I remember most was thinking we needed SS defense to have any chance at a ring in 2004. When I heard we got OCab, I was thrilled. If we hurt Nomar's feelings, so be it. He went downhill faster than just about any star I've ever seen. We got rid of him just in time, and had we never tried to trade him, he'd have still fell off a cliff. Thanks, Theo!
  10. I remember 1974, but the other years I listed the team had more wins.
  11. Yes, it's close, but I'll take the latter for sure.
  12. Nomar was never close to the defender Betts is, nor was he a great base-runner. His WAR was inflated by the SS position he pretended to play.
  13. Man, it was fun watching Nomar hit, despite the twitching and glove adjustments after every pitch. Betts is a 5 tool stud. We don't know how he'll age, but I hope we don't end up viewing him like we did the Babe- doing wonders for another team.
  14. If you had to choose: 16 straight competitive seasons with no rings, no third, 4th or 5th place finishes, 10 playoffs seasons and 2 WS losses. vs 16 seasons with 3 last place finishes, 3 third place finishes, no WS losses and 4 WS victories.
  15. Have we listed who we protected?
  16. I'm not pretending. He was not every bit as special. IMO, it was not even close. The guy could hit- no doubt. His defense was over-rated. I was happy we traded him. I even told my friends and family that the trade for OCab was "going to win us a ring." I will not be happy, if we trade Betts.
  17. We also knew he had an injury (that he likely lied about its origin) and was a pouting during a pennant race.
  18. Agreed. I'm not saying I need another ring in the next 4-8 years to be happy, and I certainly enjoy watching us compete much more than sucking, but ultimately I'm fine with having a few down years as long as there's a ring among the painful seasons. I'd rather have these 16 years, which included several last place finishes, than placing 16 seasons in a row like the best 16 seasons before Henry (from 1970-2001): 1970 (87 wins, 3rd place- no playoffs) 1972 (finished 1/2 GB Detroit & missed the playoffs) 1973 (89 wins finished 8 GB) 1975 (95 wins, 1st, Lost in gm 7 of WS after winning 95 games) 1977 (97 wins and 2.5 GB playoffs) 1978 (99 wins- 2nd, Bucky f***ing Dent) 1979 (91 wins- 3rd place & no playoffs) 1982 (89 wins- 3rd place & no playoffs) 1984 (86 wins- 4th place & no playoffs) 1986 (95 wins 1st, lost WS in 7 games) 1988 (89 wins 1st, lost ALCS 4-0) 1990 (88 wins 1st, lost ALCS 4-0) 1995 (86 wins 1st, lost LDS 3-0) 1998 (92 wins 2nd, lost LDS 3-1) 1999 (94 wins 2nd, lost ALCS 4-1) 2000 (85 wins- 2nd place, no playoffs) I'll take 2004 to 2019 over the best 16 years of my being a Sox fan since 1970. Those were some exciting seasons and great memories, but the heartbreaks and "oh-so-close" seasons tilt the balance, in my opinion, to the last 16 year period- last place finishes and all.
  19. I feel the same, but I sure like the rings a lot more than close/almost seasons.
  20. Nomar is to Mookie as Mia Hamm is to Ronaldo.
  21. To me, the test results are bigger news than the JD opt out- opt in choice.
  22. I'd love to see us win every year, even if we only win a ring every now and then, but IMO, I'd rather see a championship surrounded by 3 last place finishes than 4 -90 win seasons with no WS wins or appearances (or maybe just one appearance).
  23. I'm not even sure He knows.
  24. Is Swiharts Ghost?
