Hard to know. He's a special case. His AVV is $10.3M, but his actual salary is over $14M. If we wait until June or July, only a pro-rated amount counts.

Hard to imagine a 7 team format that doesn't leave the buy team(s) waiting too long to play. 1 buy team, 6 teams play a 5 game series? 2 buy teams, 3 teams wait for the play-in winner to join for 5 game series? I shutter to think they go to 8 teams, but there'd be a lot of money in all those playoff games and having more teams in the regular season race, too.

It was very nice when we had Betts, Bogey, JBJ and others making pre-arb and early arb dollars. They contributed greatly while allowing budget space to fill other high need areas.

In theory, Chavis could platoon at 1B, and if he doesn't work out, we have Dalbec. It's then one position we have 2 ML ready young players/prospects. I agree, JD should never play OF, except at NL parks, and even then, I'd schedule all his rest days there, if possible. We need pitching for 2021 and beyond, and also for 2020, so that should be our main focus for a trade. A RH'd OF'er would be nice. If we stay well below the luxury tax, we could bring up Castillo for a partial year- his last season of control.

I'd like to see him back. I guess we'd have to give Arauz back (rule 5), but guys like Holt help in a lot of ways not captured by stats or metrics. I was kind of thinking he was holding out in hopes we freed up some budget space, and he could come back to where he wants to play.

Good point. When our team can't develop starting pitchers and we have to pay mega buck for Price, Sale (in trade and dollars) and Eovaldi, it makes it hard to spend large on other positions.

Plus, look how much we spent above the next team or the 3rd or 4th team. It was sick. A reset was mandatory.

Henry has brought glory and success to this franchise, something I wasn't sure I'd ever see in my lifetime. We saw past GMs and owners treat blacks poorly, not even send a contract to Fisk (losing him for nothing) and years and years of spending just enough to give us the impression we might win. What did we do? We flocked to Fenway in droves, signed up for NESN every year, and bought Red Sox memorabilia left and right. Now, Henry decides to step back, and when I say step back, I'm talking still being a top 5 spender in MLB, and people want to rip him a new A-hole and boycott the team. 99.9% of the time, I take the side of the employee or union, but I'm siding with Henry on this one. The guy has single-handedly brought us up from the ashes. Four freaking rings! Plus, it's not like Henry has pledged to never spend again. He spent way more than any other team last year and then paid a hefty tax on top just to watch us flop. I'd want to reset, too. We should be able to win without going over the tax line by $40M every year, and if it takes a year to reset, before we get back into the race, I'm fine with the strategy. We all knew DD was going for "today" at the expense of tomorrow, and eventually that strategy catches up to you. It caught up to us earlier than anyone expected, and to me, resetting is the best way to make the rebuild shorter and better. I'll still have fun watching the Sox, this year. I'll watch every pitch of every game and actually feel better this year than last. I expected us to win in 2019 knowing our time was near. Now, I have lower expectation for the upcoming season but am way more optimistic about the extended future, which includes way more than just one year. It would have really sucked watching us lose again in 2020 knowing we'd also be screwed for many years to come.

IMO, she didn't say anything, as many don't, because it was a consensual relationship and he gave her tons of money and took her to nice places. He cheated on his wife and family. He's a known liar and cheat. Your court of law position assumes rich people aren't able to game the system. Look how long guys like Epstien and Harvey got away with abuses. Look at Michael Jackson. I firmly believe Clemens is a child molester. If he wants to sue me, he can. If they had sex, and we may never know for sure, it's "abuse" due to her age. I seriously doubt Roger brought her alone with him on vacations multiple times and nothing intimate happened. He was her cash cow that allowed her to buy drugs and spiral out of control. Why would she tell on him, when it was likely consensual but nevertheless abuse due to her age.
