  1. I just can't imagine signing Betts without a reset and paying a 50% tax on $35-40M. If people think $38M is too much, how would $56M sound, even if just for 1-2 years?
  2. Some seem to think Price at $16M x 3 is a bargain to LA. (I don't.) Trading Betts got us to reset. Trading Price set us up for a better 2021 and 2022. When we signed Price, most of us who thought the deal was needed or who liked the deal knew the last 2-3 years would be a net loss in value vs cost. I think we did well getting LA to pay $16M x 3. I expected they might pay $12-14M.
  3. Yes, and does the team we have now look any worse than 2012, 2014 or 2015? (Except for the rotation?.)
  4. I don't like the guy, but he would be fun to watch, and he may go all out to try and build a case for a big contract, next winter.
  5. I doubt trading JBJ loses one fan or NESN viewer. If you read over the JBJ threads of years past, you'd think most would be thankful (not me).
  6. Well, when two struggle vs lefties, it's nice to have a 4th OF'er who bats righty, so we can rest those two vs a lefty.
  7. They have shown a willingness to change course, suddenly, but it's been a success, overall. Henry has chosen to spend large and then reset or spend less over and over. I'm not sure why so many expected him to change than M.O. and become a spendaholic every year.
  8. I almost always believe women, but not when the sex was consensual and Clemens was her sugar daddy. Those are facts, BTW. The question is about when the sex started, and if you choose to believe Clemens spent 2 years grooming her and waiting until she turned 18, that's fine.
  9. That's how I see it. Without a reset, we'd have had a way smaller chance at signing him than we do now, no matter how small our chances are after trading him. Plus, it seems like a minority want to pay him more than $375M/10, so we'd be losing him anyways- for nothing.
  10. He took her on vacations, alone from ages 16-18. The girl was a consenting target, but it's still statutory rape, if sex happened. She even said she "can't deny" anything in the story that came out, except she said she was 16 not 15 when "it" started..
  11. It's assumed JBJ gets traded.
  12. I gotta think he sees something that can easily be adjusted to make him a plus. His pay does not match his history.
  13. I didn't really mean to imply we need to get a 122 ERA+, but it's more about quality than quantity, to me, except that we still need more "quantity" in replacing Porcello, so really, we need both- a 180 guy with a 105 to 110 ERA+. We can afford to take on some salary, so maybe someone is out there.
  14. Exactly. You don't bring a 15-18 year old girl alone with you on multiple vacations without some sort of hanky-panky. Down here, in Sugar Land, word was they stayed in one room, and he paid off people to be quiet about what they witnessed, but I can't find that in writing. At best, he was "grooming" her for sex when she became legit. He's a scumbag and always has been. I'm not getting why he's being defended so strongly.
  15. Our catcher depth is really bad. I'm thinking we trade Chavis or Dalbec (I choose Chavis) with a one and done player like JBJ or Workman for an innings eater who may be a slight salary dump-type guy.
  16. When the underage girl is all gah gah over the "statutory rapist," is getting massive payments and is consenting, it's not likely she'd press charges. Context is needed in all cases like this.
  17. My bad.
  18. They never really replaced Porcello's fully. Price gave us 107 IP last year and has averaged about 120 per year over the last 3 years- still very significant, but not a ton. It's his level of performance in those 120 that will be harder to match (122 ERA+)
  19. I don't know, for sure, but it makes sense there would be. If not, Castillo could file a grievance.
  20. To me, that's the only explanation. At the time, I felt they already had a deal in place. I love JBJ, but paying him $11M makes little sense. They probably could have non-tendered and then signed him for $12M/2.
  21. I think he was deliberately making the point that it's absurd to call Clemens a child molesting scumbag. He's the exact opposite. He's a choir boy.
  22. It's been like this for decades.
  23. If it happens, it'll be 7 games. Too much money on the table. Hell, they may go 9 games.
  24. Assuming there is even any deal to be had.
  25. Good one.
