  1. Maybe he finally took my advice and started being a "fan" of another team.
  2. It seems like when the odds look against us, we win. I heard some guy on the local sports talk show picking the Rays as his "pick of the week." I'm thinking we win, tonight.
  3. It makes sense not to make a 40 man roster move over a back-up catcher. Is Plawecki only expected to miss 10 days?
  4. Vaz is already second in MLB in catcher innings.
  5. I guess they aren't ready to DFA Santana, or just didn't want to use a newly created slot for a catcher. I would think Herrmann would have been a better choice. (Bandy, too.)
  6. That's very far off. Just getting an ace would bust the budget and clean out the farm. We are not going to trade away the future to grasp at straws this October. Our best hope is Sale fills the ace role. Brasier and maybe Houck/Bazardo/Ort or someone else steps up in the pen. Duran and or Cordero fill the OF need, and we trade someone like Chavis and Arauz for a decent RP'er or role player (1B/OF?)
  7. True, and if we decide to demote one, Houck would be that guy, assuming Sale is not ready at that time. (Then, the demoted starter would be the long man.)
  8. I'd be thrilled to get him, but I like Davis, too. Rocker would be sweet, too.
  9. Casas just turned 21 in January. Here's a list of all the 20 year old batters in MLB with even 1 PA, right now: _______ _______ _______ _______ Yup, zero. Here's a list of all the 21 year olds in MLB with over 95 PAs, right now: ______ ______ ______ ______ With over 20 PAs: Jarred Kelenic (92) .378 OPS (not OBP- it's OPS!) Tucupita Marcano (50) .485 OPS Jose Devers (46) .621 OPS Since 2011, there have been 31 players at 21 or younger who had 350+ PAs in a season. About half were over .800. 24 had 450+ PAs Trout twice .963 and .988 Soto twice .923 and .949 Acuna twice .883 and .917 Stanton .893 Harper twice .854 and .817 Torres .820 Correa .811 Hosmer .799 Freeman .795 S Castor.773 Odor .781 Guerrero .772 Albies .757 Machado .746 Mazara .739 Devers .731 Heywood .708 Russell .696 Bogey .660 Is there anything about this list that screams out the Sox are holding back their best prospects, too long? (It took Moncada 3+ years and over 900 PAs to start hitting well.)
  10. Like I said, the Ks don't bother me, if he gets on base. His .271 OBP still has a way to go, and it's his slugging everyone loves, but without a decent OBP, he'll never be a big plus. BTW, his OBP was .228 in early May and .237 as recently as June 8th, so.271 is on the way up, up and away! I'm real glad he has bounced back. Let's hope it's for real and for an extended time.
  11. Just like I fell in love with Dalbec's .361 (.371 in 2019) in AA.
  12. Dalbec hits the ball a very long way and has shown way more power than Casas.
  13. Is that because of his walk off HR, yesterday or his .692 OPS in his last 6 games? (To be fair, Duran has great numbers with any longer sample size than the last 6 games.)
  14. Casas is hitting .837 in AA, and a small sample size at that. If every minor league player hitting .837 or better were called up on 6/21/21, there may not be any room for existing major leaguers. I'm not sure what separates him from others hitting very well, right now. I love the kid, and expect great things, too, but not every ,837 hitter is ready for the bigs.
  15. I didn't mean it as a slight on Duran. Jimenez has 4 years to improve his power. Maybe he waits to 24 to bulk up. I was just talking upside and "ceiling." I really like Duran. I get the feeling that just because I say I trust Bloom to know when he's ML ready, that is taken as a sign I don't like him as much as those who want him called up, right now. I have very high confidence and expectations for Duran, once he is called up. He changed his position, approach and work out regime. I'm thinking some time is needed to get into his new comfort zone. It looks like he's doing a great job on that front. It looks to me, like he's ready or very close to ready, but I trust Bloom knows more than I do, and I've never seen the guy play- even on TV. (Even if I did see him numerous times, Sox brass knows way more than I do about his readiness.)
  16. Chavis over Arroyo? No Renfroe love?
  17. The top pitchers seem to be Leiter, Rocker and Jobe (HS). Jobe's stock is rising. Top position players seem to be Davis, and 3 short stops- Lawlar (HS), Mayer (HS), Watson (HS) (House being the 4th) Of these 7-8 players, only 3 are from college.
  18. I'd like to see us get Davis or Leiter. Rocker is next. I'd be happy with a HS SS, but I don't want to wait so long.
  19. Jimenez is just 20, so when you talk "ceiling" it seems easier to think it's higher for younger players. He may never match Duran's power, which incidentally, he's really only shown this year, at age 24. It's a close call, and I am very high on both of them. Aldo is 2 years younger than Bello, so I can see ranking his ceiling higher.
  20. I might go... Casas Bello Jimenez Duran (close to Jimenez)
  21. I doubt the 3 you listed at the top, and the 3 I like most, will be gone at pick 4. Maybe that's just wishful thinking.
  22. The real test is the first 18 games after the all star break. They bring us up to the trade deadline.
  23. Minoeaguebaseball.com shows very different numbers.
  24. He’s certainly making a strong case for another chance. Santana is helping, too.
