  1. I'm a believer in the theory of going with the hot hand in the pen, and I'd be fine with a Nothcut for Robertson trade, but I'm not convinced he would be the white horse coming to the rescue. I'd DFA Robles in a heartbeat to make room for him. Would the Cubs jump at a trade offer, now, when more might be offered closer to the deadline?
  2. I think the idea of the Sox trying to be sellers and buyers at the deadline is very intriguing, in theory, but I just can't see it happening in reality.
  3. I missed the comment by Cora, but it makes sense. I won't get into Paxton's return, because it's too far away and maybe not even happening, this year, but assuming Hill is healthy, or a prospect fills his slot, our rotation would look like this: 1. Pivetta 2. Eovaldi 3. Sale 4. Wacha 5. Hill, Wink/Seabold/Bello Adding Whitlock to the pen, and maybe even Wink, Bello or German, it might look like this: Closer: Houck Set-up/long man: Whitlock RP3 Schreiber RP4 Strahm RP5 Brasier RP6 Davis RP7 Sawamura RP8 Taylor/Barnes/Diekman AAA Danish (Wink/Seabold/Bello/German) DFA Robles (maybe Diekman, later)
  4. He's probably been on the phone, a lot. Maybe most teams are waiting until closer to the deadline. Maybe they are asking for too much. Maybe Bloom's higher priority is the longer term, and with so many roster spots opening up, this winter, he's looking to keep as many of our best prospects as possible. Likely, it's a little of all of this. I'm not against trading prospects, even good ones, and neither is Bloom. The "now" part of your point is valid. We can't afford to lose games vs top opponents, but with Whitlock, Sale, Eovaldi & Taylor due back, soon, I'm not sure they are going to add to the roster crunch by trading prospects, now. I have no problem DFA'ing Robles and demoting Danish. I'd be okay trading or DFA'ing Diekman, Davis and/or even Sawamura, but I'm not on board with doing this to Barnes & Brasier, right now. Of course, I'm not arguing we don't have room for a solid RP'er, right now, because we do or can make room, easy enough, but most GMs have more patience than we do.
  5. Barnes & Robles should open a bookstore.

  7. You’ve gone from zero cred to negative territory.
  8. If Hill is out, it’s Whit orWink starting.
  9. The “DFA Robles” comment was made before today’s mess.
  10. My 1 Houck closer 1A Whitlock long man 3 Schreiber 4 Strahm (looking scary lately) 5 Brasier 6 Davis 7 Sawamura 8 Danish (to AAA)> Barnes > Diekman DFA Robles
  11. Robles seems like the obvious choice, but demoting Danish keeps all options on the table.
  12. I think we trade Danish and DFA Diekman
  13. Soxprospects released its mid season rankings. https://www.soxprospects.com/ As expected Mayer jumped Casals for the 1 slot. Bello to 3 as Yorke fell to 4. Walter jumped a bunch of slots to 5. Rafaela jumped to 8. Jeter fell to 21. Groome to 16. Wong jumped up to 18, while Hickey jump all the way up to 19. Kavadas jumped to 29. 6 Mata 7 Bleis 9 Wink 10 Murphy 11 Seabold 12 Paulino 15 Lugo 17 Binelas 27 German 28 Drohan
  14. Do the cash considerations subtract from the lux tax budget? (Not that it would matter)
  15. Maybe Frank German will get a look before the trade deadline
  16. I’m fine with Whitlock going back to the pen once Sale returns. I was just addressing concerns about Whitlock’s season IP totals as a reason to move him out of the rotation. As for Hill, I think he’d be a fine long man, and I recall at his signing, some talk about his ability to be a flex guy between the pen and rotation, so I think he’d be fine with the idea. Either way, we’ll get a nice boost to the pen. I also wonder if Wink will be moved to the pen or back to AAA.
  17. The blown save in Toronto sucked, and it got pretty scetchy I the 10th, but this pen has come together Nicely over the last few weeks. I think pitchers getting more defined roles, and Houck becoming the closer was the major reason this happened. (Look how quickly it fell apart when Houck was not available.)
  18. Whitlock is only going to be in the low 50’s in IP at the 81 game mark of the season. If he starts 16 games and gives us 6 every game- not likely- he’ll end the regular season with about 150 innings. That seems about right, but then the post season. Maybe they keep him starting but try to limit him to 5 IP per starts and move Hill to the pen.
  19. I agree, and I’ve said all along that this must be about the prospects and Bloom’s view that they will be better than most rankings have them placed. Even if JBJ bounced back to.700, the money part would still make the deal a real head-scratcher. It’s Binelas and Hamilton, because it ain’t gonna be JBJ.
  20. Maybe, but if they think he’s worth $8M, this year and they still play him FT, I’m not so sure.
  21. They were able to trade the major portion of the deal. That’s on the Sox.
  22. To me, the worst part of the trade and contract is yet to come: the $8M buyout for 2023!!! $12M salary for 2023. Ouch!!! The $4M differential might mean he’s back, next year.
