  1. ...and maybe the last 7 of this game.
  2. Are we going to lead the league in GIDP, this year?
  3. ...and K's the side!
  4. Those two might be or end up being in our top 4-6 pitchers, this year (SP + RP). They could really change the make-up of our staff.
  5. soxprospects now lists the projected 2024 rosters: https://www.soxprospects.com/2024.htm They have Mayer in AA. Rafaela in AAA. Mata in MLB.
  6. That Beni trade is still sort of "pending" as Winckowski is starting to show signs of life. Cordero is gone and gave us close to nothing, if not minus value. Luis de la Rosa- Salem w so-so results in very few innings pitched- faint hopes Grant Gambrell- I think he is out of baseball, now. Freddy Valdez- just converted to pitching
  7. It's so hard to know what might have happened. One could argue we might still have won in 2018 without Sale. Had we traded for Quintana, instead of Sale, what might have happened? One can even go as deep as to wonder if Espinoza gets hurt had he not been traded? I do think Ben would have made a big trade or two, even if it took him being forced to do so. We'll never know. This whole Bloom era may end up with the same what ifs. He's never made a big prospect for stud trade. His top prospect traded was Aldo Ramirez for Schwarber. Next, might be Groome for Hosmer, Ferguson & Rosier. Contrast this with DD trading about 20 prospects that at one time or another were top 20, and you can see the vast disparity in philosophies or mandates.
  8. Agree. As for Valdez & Abreu, I think they were like 8th to 15th on the Astros prospect list, but yes, they had recently moved up.
  9. Maybe the Marlins knew something we didn't. Note: 2023 Barnes 2IP 1H 1BB 1K 0ER
  10. If Wink can keep this up, and Houck fills the other long man relief role close to as well as Whitlock did from 2021-2022, our pen will be a lot better off. Lessening the mid and high leverage IP by Brasier, Ort and Kelly should be something we all agree on as being a good thing. I'm still hopeful Crawford can help the pen, at some point, or maybe Mata or someone else can, but the less those 3 pitch, the better our pen will be, IMO. Jansen Martin Bleier Schreiber J Rod Houck Wink Brasier/Crawford/Mata/Paxton/Mills/Kelly/Ort Keep the top 7 as strong as possible.
  11. I totally agree, and while DD does deserve much credit, almost every trade he made involved highly regarded prospects that Ben stockpiled or kept from the Theo era. He also left a fine young core of players in Betts, Bogey, JBJ, Vaz & ERod, plus some vets like Porcello, Napoli, Barnes. DD kept the right prospects in Devers & Beni.
  12. I always had the feeling Ben would eventually pull the trigger on a blockbuster prospects for stud trade, but I'm not sure about the Sale deal (maybe Quintana), either. I seriously doubt he'd do the Kimbrel deal. Certainly keeping every prospect looks like the wrong choice, in hindsight.
  13. BRING BACK BEN! He's the guy who set it all up for 2018.
  14. I'm hoping Yorke pushes his way back up the ladder- perhaps to top 100 status.
  15. We're 6th in runs scored, 10th in OPS and 12th in wRC+. Or, are you talking about just the recent 2 games?
  16. Break up the pen? I'm talking about demoting or minimizing the mid/high leverage IP by Ort, Kelly and Brasier. Ort, Kelly, Brasier: 12.2 IP 13 H 6 BB- 8Ks 8 ER 5.84 ERA 1.54 WHIP The rest of the pen: 16 IP 16 H 7 BB- 16 K 4 ER 2.25 ERA 1.44 WHIP If Whitlock and Bello joing the rotation, I can see Crawford going to AAA, but Kelly & Ort have options, so I'd send them down and move Houck to the pen, where he belongs, and hopefully he can fill Whitlock's role held ver the last 2 years. Rotation: Sale, Kluber, Whitlock, Bello, Pivetta Closer: Jansen Set-up: Martin, Bleier, Brasier (and eventually JRod) 1-2 Innings guys: Schreiber 1-3 Inning guys: Houck, Winckowski (and maybe Crawford, eventually)
  17. Nothing ever changes.
  18. We know your position. We'll talk again, later.
  19. It is really our only hope. I think the O will be fine. The pen will be fine. The starting pitching needs to be not only good, it needs to be good enough to help cover up the bad D.
  20. Like Heaney & Stallings.
  21. I just mentioned Paxton as a possible option to push one of our pen guys off the 13 or to less innings needed, but certainly Whitlock and Bello look to be better options. Moving Houck and or Crawford into long man RP roles could free us from ever needing Ort, Brasier and Kelly in any meaningful innings.
  22. The late signing made me think it might have been a sort of after- thought/ knee jerk reactionary thingy. Maybe not.
  23. I don't get swayed by a 2 game O drought.
