  1. It's all about Turner and a big second half from Devers.
  2. I agree. We can guess we will not be trading away a bunch of top prospects for a bunch of players, so my guess is, if we are buyers, we will likely focus on 1 or 2 players, and they should be pitcher(s.) We should be getting some SP'ers back, and maybe Schreiber for the pen, but I'm thinking SP'ers. If we end up squeezing Whitlock, Houck or Crawford to the pen, then great! Here are the team positional rankings by fWAR: 29th SS (Story has to be counted on, here) 27th 2B (Arroyo, Kike, Chang. I doubt we trade for MI help.) 20th SP 20th C (We will ride it out with Wong & Alfaro/McGuire 14th 3B 13th RP 11th 1B 9th RF 6th CF 5th LF 2nd DH We need to trade something to get something. We can try to take on some salary, as long as we don't go over the line. Possible trade candidates might be Duvall and Kike, and we could include some cash to up the return. Dalbec should be on the block, but he's not bringing back a plus SP'er, and may only just barely sweeten any package. We will likely have to trade one or two from: Rafaela EValdez, Yorke or Romero Drohan, Wikelman, Mata, Walter, Murphy or Perales Bonaci, Jordan & Paulino
  3. We forgot Tomo Ohka, too. Leaders in fWAR only with the Sox: 7.8 Dice-K 6.1 Uehara 4.0 Tazawa 3.0 Nomo 2.9 Okajima 1.4 Ohko 0.3 Saito -0.2 Sawamura
  4. It's a pain going in and out of each article.

  6. Comp Picks are in... 132. Kristian Campbell SS GA Tech 133. Justin Riemer SS Wright St.
  7. Sherriff elected free agency after passing through waivers. Caleb Hamilton did not. He's back with Woo.
  8. I thought they decided on Nate and Wacha. The silence is deafening on Bogey, too.
  9. I agree with this, but my point was about "high floor" pitchers.
  10. Hard to know, when he never drafts one in the top rounds. 2020 4th round: Wu-Yelland 5th Drohan 2021 4th Rodrigues-Cruz 7th W Olds 8th Hunter Dobbins 2022 3rd Dalton Rogers 5th Noah Dean 6th Alex Hoppe 7th Caleb Bolden
  11. I hope we draft 4 more SSs.

  13. Maybe one gets traded.
  14. Apparently, the problem was that after 2 times failing, he should not have been given a third chance. Talk about small sample sizes. LOL. Our pen sucked, last year. Barnes was one of the few pitchers with some sort of hope he could regain some of his first half '21 magic.
  15. I sure wish we had stayed under the tax line and gotten better picks.
  16. How long until Bonaci gets the AA call? Anthony? Who is the next AA call up to AAA?
  17. For some reason, it seems like a lot of managers go with questionable pitchers in the 10th.
  18. Top SP Catching Prospects History (Highest Rankings and year) 16 Joh Garcia '23 18 Hickey '22 14 RHern '21 12 Wong '20 1 Swihart '15 13 Vazquez '14 5 Lavarnway '12 9 Exposito '10 7 Kottaras '07 3 Shoppach '04 I might have missed some.
  19. I agree that SPs has done a fine job, over the year. They miss on some, like everyone does, but they do seem to do a better job than the national services. Some pretty big misses in the past (top 3 only): Michael Bowden #3 Lars Anderson #1 Casey Kelly #1 Ryan Kalish #1 (It's not like we had great prospects in this era) Wil Middlebrooks #1 (same as Kalish) Anthony Ranaudo #2 (same as Middy & Kalish) Allen Webster #3 Blake Swihart #1 Henry Owens #2 Jay Groome #1 Michael Chavis #1 DHern #2 Dalbec #2 Downs #2
  20. How much value do GMs place on a one month sample size? It does matter, but how much? I guess one could go back to the start of 2022 and see a bigger sample size: .726 in 443 PAs. I do think, if Duvall is still slumping by Aug 1st, his value will be pretty low, even if we pay his full remaining contract.
  21. I'm talking opening day 2024. I'm all for Story at 2B, but Yorke will not be the back up 2Bman April '24. Mayer will not be the opening day SS in '24. Right now, our 2024 middle IF looks like this (with no outside additions:) Story Chang EValdez D Hamilton I'm not all ga-ga over Arroyo, but it makes sense keeping him over Kike. If we traded him or even DFA'd him, I would not shed a single tear.
  22. It's weird they had Anthony 9th last December, then felt the need to jump Perales and Paulino in front of him by spring.
  23. I was going by what MVP said about the SP podcast on Teel.
  24. He'd be gone, already, if we didn't care. Our middle infield is injury prone and lacks depth, now and next year. Kike and Mondesi will be gone. EValdez is not a good defender. It looks like DHam isn't either. I'd keep Arroyo, at least until Yorke or Mayer are in the mix. Of course, signing a cheap 2Bman next winter is an option, too.
  25. The idea would be to trade him for a player at a position of higher need, but that might be hard to do. Usually, Duvall would be traded for a prospect. Maybe a 3 way trade? Duvall to team A Prospect to team B (We could even add prospects like Dalbec and Murphy.) SP to Red Sox
