  1. A few too many zeroes.
  2. Story had a great first game. Schreiber has looked like the 2022 Schreiber, since his return.
  3. He is just a suspect.
  4. Then, you would have cried when they did not sign him after a 2019 Cy Young season.
  5. Well, you did call Houston, a city of over 5 million my "small corner."
  6. It's always been my opinion that a healthy Sale was worth close to $145M/4 than $145M/5. I think they built in close to a lost season into the deal. Had Sale looked great in early 2019, he might have gotten $145/4 or $175M/5. Just my take, apparently.
  7. Yes, and that is the flip side of that position. If he sucked, or looked hurt, no extension would be offered.
  8. The returning players may struggle for a while, too.
  9. Nor sub .500 or .550.
  10. Yes, that was the worst of it, for sure.
  11. The problem is, if he looked great out of the gate in '19, his price tag goes up. Then, he gets hurt, anyway.
  12. No, I'm not, but as a fan of the Sox for 50 years, it was not like this before 2004. We all had a somewhat common target of our frustrations, disappointments and anger, that being management and the owner's unwillingness to spend bigly. Once we got a ring, it messed that all up. We can talk spoiled fans, higher expectations, the prior unheard of fans defending a Sox GM and I'm sure the list could go on and on, but fans did not turn on each other in the 70's 80's and 90's, at least in my tiny corner of the world, which was Portland, Maine, at the time.
  13. I totally agree, and blaming Bloom or calling that trade his lasting legacy shows a shortsightedness very common in these debates. The "He could have gotten a better return" argument makes more sense as a topic for debate, but even that rings hollow, when you factor in the half Price addition to the deal, and how few teams would even answer a call on a trade with that much cost.
  14. Excellent choice of words.
  15. How is it "ridiculous" to add that context to the task Bloom was given? You may disagree with the impact the budget, farm and declining/injured returning vets had on Bloom's tenure, but certainly all three areas were significant enough to not call bringing them up "ridiculous." Again, I come back to the idea that it seems like how people judge the Bloom era has much to do with how they viewed the situation he was handed. Many refused to believe a reckoning was coming, back in 2019, and they seem to be mostly be the ones who think that Bloom is largely to blame for 3-4 years of poor to mediocre play, since DD left. This all began in 2019, including the budget restrictions and no trading prospects trend. The no farm infusion trend began right after Devers was called up in the summer of 2017, and that trend takes years to kick in and see the results it has on a team's ability to win consistently. Again, unlike notin, I applaud DD's efforts and think this sacrifice was worth every bit of those 3 glorious years from 2016-2018.
  16. He's keeping all those "what if" arguments on the front burner. Our pen games have really taken a toll on our staff and our record.
  17. I do have my doubts about whether not going over, last year, would have meant we'd have gone over, this year.
  18. Indeed. Winning 3 out of 4 vs the Royals is the minimum acceptable record. Maybe Turner returns, today and can provide the spark he has often done, over his career.
  19. Best Records v Winning Teams: 40-25 ATL 44-34 BAL 34-27 SFG 33-28 TEX 38-33 BOS 40-35 TBR 31-30 LAD 36-35 PHI (All others have losing records) The Sox are 20-22 v losing teams- 5th worst in MLB. Weird season.
  20. MLB names the Sox prospect that jumped the most- midseason: Red Sox: Yoeilin Cespedes, SS Cespedes received the largest bonus ($1.4 million) in Boston's 2023 international class because he was considered one of the more advanced hitters on the market, and he has lived up to that reputation in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League. Cespedes is batting .359/.409/.594 with six homers in 41 games and also earning praise for his baseball IQ and work ethic.
  21. The real fun begins after these next 7 games, but it would sure help, if we could go on a tear and win 6 of 7 of the next 7: 8/10 KCR (pen) 8/11 DET (Sale) 8/12 DET (Bello) 8/13 DET (Crawford) OFF 8/15@WSH (Pivetta) 8/16@WSH (Sale) 8/17@WSH (Bello) TOR's next 7: @CLE 1 CHC 3 PHI 2 NYY's next 7: @CWS 1 @MIA 3 @ATL 3 HOU's: @BAL 1 LAA 3 @MIA 3 SEA SDP 1 BAL 3 @KCR 4
  22. This thread is just the board's final tribute to Swihart's Ghost.
  23. On another note: Am I wrong in saying our last top 6 prospect on SP's that was traded was Jalen Beeks for Nate on 7/25/18? It's been over 5 years. My research may be wrong, but I think the highest ranked prospect traded, since then, was #9 Aldo Ramirez for Schwarber at the '21 deadline. I don't have the answer, but what ranking was the second highest ranked prospect traded, since Beeks?
  24. Rays lost to Cards O's lost to Astros Rangers lost to A's Yanks losing to ChiSox 9-2 in 8th Mariners tied wit Padres in 4th. If the Yanks lose... WC Race TBR +4.0 HOU +1.5 TOR --- SEA -2.5 (pending results of their game) BOS -5.0 NYY -5.5 LAA -7.5
  25. There has already been a threads' worth of banter about 2024, but yes, it does seem like starting one would be looking like waiving the flag.
