Collin Hetzler is the interim hitting coach (from WOO). The assistant is another position.
Yes. My point was that I thought we hired the assiatnt before the interim hitting coach.
ass backwards.

Red Sox should have DFA'd Ortiz when he OPS'd 524 in April 2010.
I remember one poster wanted him demoted.
He hit .943 May 1st>>>

.574 Bichette

They do eventually decline. Bregman already is a far cry from the player he was in 2017-2019. Hes not going back to being that player…
Exactly. If not for a couple good half seasons after 2019, Bregman would have had horrible numbers, but hey, he's a great clubhouse guy. That's gotta be worth $35M+.

You forgot Bichette instead of Durbin.
Yup, with Mayer/Romy at 3B.
Us armchair GMs suck the most, yet are the most vocal about firing Brez.

Did they ever.
Cora? LMAO!
The guy couldn't even bring himself to politely ask Devers if he'd even consider just thinking about trying a 1Bmans mitt on.

I was perfectly happy to see Bregman leave.
I wish him nothing but success going forward, except when they play us!
Even our final offer was too much, so mistakes made or not by our FO, it all worked out for the best on that singular non move, IMO.
The Contreras trade is looking real good, right now, but the season is long.
I just wish we'd have added another big infield bat, or at least bigger than Durbin/IKF.
I thought the pen could be helped by starters who did not make the rotation, but we have already gone through all of them and even had to start Rivera.

I think so; both with the Cubs a decade ago.
Suarez did have a win against the Astros in the 2022 Series but the Phillies didn't win it that year.
Chapman won with the Rangers in 2023, too.

I think bres-slow’s offseason was, for the most part, money!!!! But he should have done more to sure up the bullpen!!
To add to the pen, then no IKF signing, or no Oviedo trade- trade for a pen arm not him.
Hindsight there woulda been nice, but I think the Suarez and Contreras deals are looking pretty good.
Sonny Gray needs to comeback.
-
So, would people like Brez more if he...
signed Alonso over the Contreras trade
signed Bregman over Suarez
traded for Nate not Gray
-
Are Contreras and Chapman the only 2 Sox players with WS rings?

We used to speak of the unbalance on the farm with crappy pitching, then it swung to pitching and too few bench pieces on the farm that were ML ready everyday players.
Now, with so many pitchers on the IL, the farm only has 3 pitchers on the 40:
Bennett was in AA last year
Anderson & Rivera were just added to the 40 a few days ago.
Everyday players: Gasper, Cheng, Campbell, Eaton, Sogard & Seigler.
I gotta think if we add a pitcher to the 40, we may cut one of these everyday players loose. but then again, we could just cut Watson loose.
IL: Gray, Slaten, Crawford & Sandoval (Uberstine) / No everyday players on the IL at BOS or Woo, except Matt Lloyd.

line-up
1 Duran LF
2 Contreras 1B
3 Anthony DH
4 Abreu RF
5 Story SS
6 Mayer 2B
7 Rafaela CF
8 Narvaez C
9 Durbin 3B
Pitcher: Ranger Suarez

I think Anthony will be fine and everyone is forgetting he’s only 21 years old. This is also part of the reason you probably shouldn’t bank on a 21 year old with less than half of a season under his belt being this important.
Obviously some guys underperforming is hurting this team, but I just don’t think this roster Breslow built is that great in general.
While all true, Brez must have been counting on something from the kids plus Contreras & Durbin to replace this:
.905 Devers (334 PAs)
.838 Refsnyder (209)
.821 Bregman (495)
.790 N Lowe (119)

Hamilton has an OPS barely over .600 with 1 extra base hit and. 0.3 WAR this season… That is what front office is considering “playing well” and what they’re mad about?
Mad enough to make heads roll, supposedly!
LMAO.
Next, we'll hear they are upset for letting Moncada get away.

That whole thing, like most other small sample analytics, make no sense. Hamilton played much, much, much better for us than he has for Mil.
They must have been blown away that another team would play him at SS, and somehow that convinced them they failed DHam.
Not.

Verdugo and Beni? Really? Ref has been gone 2 minutes. Vaz was on the down slope.
Yes
Beni left at 25 y/0 with a 107 OPS+ and went to 101 from ages 26-31.
Verdugo lest at age 27 with a 104 OPS+. He's been 79 at ages 28-29- peak prime years.
Okay, Ref is past prime. but he and Romy did much better after joining BOS.
-
Devers, Bogey, Beni, Vaz, Verdugo, Refsnyder and others got worse after leaving and many were not post-prime.

Can't you two just put each other on ignore? Your continued and childish obsession with each other is making threads hard to read.
Winning two in a row brings out the best in us!

I'm not sure a .605 DHam would have made a difference. He did better in 2024 under Cora & Co.
-
YRod has bolted up the stats list. Nobody in the system has more PAs and a higher OPS (1.037) Arias and Tucker are higher but have less PAs. Arias leads the system in HRs at 7, with YRod at 5.
Ferguson has shot up to 1.000 but apparently forgot how to steal bases (3 w 2CS.)
I lost faith in Cespedes, and now he's at .879.
Godbout is now over .800.
The ERA leaders with 16+ IP:
0.51 Futrell
0.54 Eyanson
0.86 Bennett

If that is true, it is so asinine. Its treating people like throwaway parts. Use up, throw away, get the next in line, using them making millions of dollars as leverage to do their bidding. Edit - It certainly fits in the way they said JH didnt talk to the team at all and Breslow spoke about 2 minutes after that massive firing.
I would like to know the real story behind Cora and Breslow. I thought it was Cora that was the analytics guy but I've heard people say by firing Cora, analytics wins.
I do think one reason we held onto 5 OF/DHs was to cover for a possible sophomore slump by Anthony.
Mayer was not handed the job, and we added IKF, Durbin & Monasterio over the winter as coverage.
Campbell was handed the FT job, last spring, and we had very little behind him, but there was some hope for a DHam-Romy platoon.
We started this season with Tolle & Early in AAA.

It is.
It was also pretty clear in March that no AL team looked really good.
