I just love computers. In fact I'm using one right now--ditto when I use the phone, ipad, etc. But most of all I love them when opposing managers listen to their siren call and pull their starter when he is pitching well just because there's a man on first with one out and the top of the Sox order--who couldn't hit Quintana--is coming up for the 3d time.
I believe I am correct in saying that Cora does not usually pull his starter when the opposing team is about to face him for the 3d time. Today Eovaldi faced 23 batters despite giving up 4 runs in the 2d. Well done, Alex--and Eovaldi. And Valdez, for that matter.
Thanks, Joe, very much. You have given the Sox top of the order new life because, no doubt, your computer told you to never, ever let a pitcher go thru the order 3 times.
Joe Maddon ties it up with a 3 run dinger by Devers!!!!!
So, 1 out, 1 on, and we are back to the execrable top of the Sox order--so far, anyway.
Me, I would have left Quintana in, but the all-seeing, all-knowing Joe Maddon is bringing in a fresh arm, who promptly got screwed on the sinker.
