  1. He's a freak of nature. No one his age should be able to throw that hard. Plus he still has command and he uses that splitter. Plus he has an unforgettable presence on the mound.
  2. It makes sense to me even though I agree MLB did it to shorten game times--just like insisting pitchers take less than an hour between pitches. Ditto batters who prefer to stay out of the batter's box so they can adjust their gloves, gold necklace, whatever. If the Sox are lousy in extra innings, that's their fault. Last night they won because the Marlins reliever in the 10th walked the first two batters to load the bases with no one out.
  3. Attendance 36,854 against the lowly Marlins--who definitely put up a good fight. The paying Sox fans like this year's team.
  4. With their top 3 hitters, they should have a shot, but "hitter" doesn't apply much to Anthony or Duran in this game.
  5. Completely agree. He was terrific. But Giolito looked like toast in the first 3 innings and luckily only gave up 1 run. Then he settled down for another quality start.
  6. Three hard hit balls off Wilson, so in comes Cora followed by Whitlock.
  7. Sox have 2 hits in 7 innings. The 7th inning Marlins reliever looked tough. Lineout by Marlins to start the 8th. Make that two lineouts to RF.
  8. Not good, fantastic--because he started out very badly and then found himself in the 4th inning. This turned out to be one heckuva game, 1-1 in the 7th. Marlin's starter was really tough and Bregman came in with a huge, huge double to the opposite field.
  9. Not the best pregame prediction . . . Mine was a little more balanced because I mentioned recent and better games by Alcantara.
  10. Marlins back to back doubles, 1-0. If there is in fact a good Giolito, he needs to show up soon.
  11. Rafaela takes better routes than Duran. Thank goodness. Marlins are hitting Giolito hard.
  12. A heckuva lot of pregame comments on the game thread. Most this season?
  13. Cora is managing both Crochet and Narvaez carefully and for the same reason.
  14. Completely agree about Narvaez, but why 3 catchers when Wong is already a reliable backup despite lousy hitting? Can't Sanchez be sent to Worcester instead of using up a roster slot?
  15. The Sox won 4 WS during 2004-19, the most in MLB. Same time period, the Yankees won 1 WS. Covid in 2020 had an effect on attendance in 2020 and 2021, but attendance was pretty close to normal by 2022. But the Sox have not recovered, mostly because of not making the postseason, but also because fans knew JH wanted to spend less on players. Nevertheless, I like that the Sox are 9th now. You are dead right about road attendance. The Pirates right now are 5th. Rampaging Milwaukee is 23d in road attendance.
