    It's plays like that one by Wong make me wonder why statistically McGuire is considered a much better catcher. McGuire does not block and then control that wild pitch--which is not officially wild.

    That first pitch to Graham was a strike, but only if a Yankee pitcher threw it. This ump has screwed the Sox in this game with all close calls going to the Yankees and some actual strikes being called balls for Sox pitcher.

    Yankees pitchers are getting way more calls than the Sox.

    A win tonight would be so cool and a real lesson in baseball for the Yankees. They and their fans no doubt that last night was a watershed game signifying clear sailing for the rest of the season. Abreu needs a rest or something.

    Yes, certainly. But the hero so far is Crawford, who is facing the same lineup that last night scored 14 runs off of 14 hits and 4 dingers. EVeryone has been zinging the Sox rotation lately, but I think they have 4 decent starters. Houck and Crawford of course. But also Bello and Pivetta. The latter two have ups and downs, but can be good when they are on. With that, a shout outto the pitching coach who has definitely made a difference this year.

    That was a 99 mph pitch that Devers hit, so clearly he didn't get all of it. But he did get enough.

    Top 6 Yankees in their batting order are hitless tonight. Both teams now have 3 hits. And Gil comes back out for the 7th, which makes sense.

    Third straight game in which the Yankees pitchers have gotten the calls.

    Good pitching and pitch-calling. The slider was working, so they went 9 miles above the strike zone with heat, and Hamilton missed it by 8 miles. Gil has pitched an excellent 6 inning and now @ 86 pitches. My impression is the Yankees have the better bullpen.

    A hanging slider in the middle of the zone and Duran could only foul it back. Second one near the first one, same result. And he finally K's on a low slider. Good pitching by Gil, but horrible at bat for Duran.

    Smith got around on that 98 mph fastball, grounder single to the right side.

    Rafaela is good in CF, but, when he plays SS, he's also pretty good, plus that allows Cora to put Ref or O'Neill in the outfield. Both are good righty bats. OK, this game has gone 5 innings in just a tad over an hour. Also, Cora needs to be thinking about a reliever in for Crawford, who's already thrown 40 pitches and just barely made it through 5 innings. He looks really tired to me.

    In 5 innings Gil has 7 K's, 0 BB's, 0 runs, and 2 hits by the Sox. And 61 pitches, which means he could go 7 innings easy.

    Except for pitch counts and hits by both teams, I think Gil is outpitching Crawford.

    This is insane. Crawford has thrown 33 pitches in 4 freaking innings.

    Mostly fastballs, which have worked, some sliders which have also worked, and now a changeup here and there. He looks tougher 2d time through the Sox lineup than he was first time through.

    Gil has thrown 21 pitches in 2 innings and nothing but fastballs and a few sliders--and he has been very effective against the Sox. Crawford has also been effective with just 18 pitches in 2 innings.

    I thought the 8th pitch, a low fastball to Hamilton, nicked the strike zone. In this series we've seen worse, and usually favoring the home team. Devers leads off with a nice single. And Wong, like everyone in the history of Red Sox baseball (with a very few exceptions), fails to bunt.

    Except for that last pitch to Judge, Crawford looks sharp tonight.
