  1. Decided to do a little research on my own, rather than wait for responses from the many knowledgeable members of the forum. But before revealing where and what Youk is now doing, allow me to share the following humorous quote. former Red Sox manager Terry Francona, referring to his nickname, the 'Greek God of Walks' "I've seen Youkilis in the shower, and I wouldn't call him the Greek god of anything." And as for present day life, in August 2016, Youk, along with his brother Scott, opened Loma Brewing Company, a brewpub in Los Gatos, California. So I guess the next time any of us are in Los Gatos, we should 'Walk' into his brewpub and say hello.
  2. With nothing better to do during the long winter months waiting for baseball activities to begin, I sometimes wonder what some of our earlier heroes are doing now that they are retired from their baseball days. Today, for some unknown reason, Tom Brady's brother-in-law comes to mind. As one of my favorite players the Greek God of Walks for ten years put up annually a BA .281, HR's 23, & RBI 94 while providing sterling defense at 1B. So, what's Youk doing these days??????? Anyone else wanting to join in and curious as to the present day status of an earlier Sox player.
  3. Point well made! But the Sox could presumably get more for JBJ in trade value than what they could get for Swihart. Guess we'll just have to wait and see how things play out.
  4. There appeared a recent article in the news regarding a possible attempt by Manny to resume his baseball career. If (and this is a big if) he could get into baseball playing shape and show that he can still hit, would you consider him viable as a DH for the Red Sox?
  5. Your right on with JBJ's stats, Bellhorn, but let me ask you this. Hypothetically, take the production of the CF'er (JBJ) and combine it with the production of the LF'er for the entire 2016 season and then compare it to the combined projected production of CF'er Benintendi and LF'er Swihart for the 2017 season and what do you see? This is all hypothetical of course, but I see tremendous amount of potential for a highly productive outfield trio of Swihart, Benintendi, and Betts without sacrificing that much on defense, with the bonus of getting a productive player for JBJ.
  6. It's just a gut feeling on my part, but I think Swihart's future lies in LF. He still has a long ways to go before becoming a top notch defensive catcher. Not so much as an outfielder, and his bat is too valuable to keep out of an everyday role. Perhaps in Spring training he will prove my point by making his bat indispensable.
  7. Do the Mets have anything that could help the Sox? Because I could see a Sox lineup with Swihart in LF, Benintendi in CF, and Betts in RF. And JBJ would certainly be a nice fit for the Mets in CF. And I believe JBJ would blossom into a true All-Star in the National League. Now the question is, what do the Mets have to offer that would get DD's attention?
  8. " My ex-wife wouldn't even shake hands with me in March", probably because she doesn't get the gist as to the importance of Spring Training!
  9. I too am enjoying 2016, quite immensely I might add. But, in spite of which, I was just taking a page out of the 'Bill Belichick book' on playing in the present while keeping an eye to the future. And I'll bet you dollars to donuts that Dombrowski is also already thinking about 2017.
  10. IMO, Longoria is a solid third baseman, with .272 career BA and presently can be counted on for 30 HR and 100+ RBI's per season. Hitting at home at Fenway Park would be electric. Inserting him in a lineup with Pedroia, Betts, Bogaerts, Hanley, Benintendi, Bradley, Leon, and DH (hopefully Encarcion) would be any opposing pitcher's worst nightmare. His contract runs through 2022 @ just under $10M per year. And Archer would be an excellent addition to the Sox rotation. If you were in Dombrowski's shoes, would you explore the possibility of a blockbuster trade with the constantly-rebuilding Rays for these two players, and if so what would you be prepared to give up?
  11. I'm regulated today to watching the game on Fox. And I don't know their names, but the two broadcasters are not only extremely dull but also seemingly pro-Yankees. These guys are terrible.
  12. Your mention of Kirby Puckett was very interesting. Stat wise, there are undeniable measurable similarities. But the "younger, skinnier Kirby Puckett" reference particularly got my attention. For most the mention of Puckett often brings to mind the image of a pudgy-bowling ball type physique. But to my surprise, Baseball-Reference.com has Kirby listed at 5'8" and 178 lbs. which is clearly close to Mookie at 5' 9", 180 lbs. Who whoulda thought!
  13. The all around play of Betts recently brought to mind the great play of Minnesota's Tony Oliva, who had to share the limelight with Killebrew, Carew, and Allison!
  14. How has Tanaka pitched in his more recent appearances?
  15. I definitely don't want to see Britton in the ninth!
  16. A young-first-year player just returning from an injury, and he's going to supplant the hottest hitter (excluding Pedey) on the team over the past two weeks!???? What am I missing here?
  17. A win is a win is a win. And this was a Big win! But if it comes to the ninth inning with the Sox in the lead in the World Series and they bring on Kimbrel, I'm afraid I won't be able to watch and be forced to turn off the TV. My heart just won't take it!
  18. Say what you want, but Kimbrel always gets my heart rate up!
  19. On second thought, send Porcello back out for the last of the 7th. But so much as one guy reaches first, go to the bullpen!
  20. Yup pathetic! K's Donaldson on three pitches and then induces a ground ball double play!
  21. Nothing like burning the opponent's bullpen in the 3rd inning of the opener of a three game series. GO SOX!
  22. Nothing like burning the opponent's bullpen in the 3rd inning of the opener of a three game series. GO SOX!
  23. That's been Bogaerts problem right along, pitch selection. 3 and 2 count and he swings at two pitches outside the strike zone. The six pitch in the sequence was high and wide, and a walk would have created runners on 1st & 2nd with no outs with Ortiz due up.
  24. I'm just a bit surprised that no one mentioned a young Al Kaline.
