  1. And hopefully if the Lord's willing I'll still be around to read it!
  2. Is it just me, or does Kimbrel always makes it an adventure?
  3. Not such a good game so far for Moncada; error, picked off first, and ground out with the bases loaded. Welcome to the bigs!
  4. Say what you like, but Ortiz should have been tagging up on Ramirez's long fly out!
  5. The way Mookie's playing, both offensively and defensively, Roberto Clemente comes to my mind. High average, hits for power, RBI's, speed on the base paths as well as in the field, and a great arm. But, also importantly he's an exciting player to watch as soon as he takes the field and he appears to be a class act.
  6. Comic Sans MS]Since no one else mentioned it, the monster seats above the left field wall provide a most unique experience to attending a Sox game at Fenway[/color].
  7. The Napoli Experience is a bit 'apples and oranges'. However, I do agree with your premise. And, the 'walk, strikeout, do something really good' trilogy is something I would readily embrace even if he struck out a third of his AB's but then 'walked' a third of his at bats, and 'did something good' a third of the time. But this scenario is not at present playing out. Let us just hope that JF putting him back in the #9 hole will elicit a resurgence of his early season brilliance at the plate.
  8. Which makes him an even more attractive trade chip. Some NL team might envision him as a low-cost potential starter in their rotation!
  9. Jackie obviously had a tremendous first half of the season including the 29-game hitting streak where he was making solid contact it seems on every at bat while hitting over .400. Then, just when the hitting streak ended, his swing abandoned him. And from that date to the present he is hitting just a tad over .200. What has caused this abrupt turnaround? Is he too concerned with putting up power numbers, or has he just lost his confidence, or was taking him out of the #9 hole had the effect of changing his mindset, or is it the newly acquired role and demand of fatherhood, or is it simply a player coming back to earth and returning to being the weak-hitting/defensive-whiz center fielder as that which he earlier showed himself to be??????? I find it incomprehensible that a player, sans injury or succumbing to the age factor, can ostensibly go from a glittering star in the galaxy to a burned out meteor tumbling to earth!
  10. If the Sox can get some real value to fill a team need, or complement what already exists, via a trade, particularly to a NL team, where Buchholtz with a fresh start would flourish, I say go for it.
  11. I definitely like your attitude! Although I might consider hitting him lower in the order until he gets his feet wet.
  12. With a week to go until September 1st, what are the chances we'll see Moncada called up from Portland? And if he is added to the roster will he get a similar opportunity to play 3B on a regular and consistent basis?
  13. Under current rules, a player must have 3.1 plate appearances (PA) per team game (for a total of 502 over the current 162-game season) to qualify for the batting title. However, if a player's lead in AVG is sufficiently large that enough hitless at bats can be added to reach this requirement and the player still would have the highest batting average, he wins the title. As of Now Sandy has 152 AB's with a .375 BA, so even if he were to get 3 AB's in each of the remaining games this season, it is unlikely that he would qualify for the batting title.
  14. Hey Kimmi, please accept my sincere apology for my rookie mistake. How do I delete my original thread?
  15. Can't blame Pedey, Ramirez shoulda had it!
  16. First let me say that I have reviewed previous threads to see if this post might fit in with a previous thread. I sincerely hope that by creating a new thread that I'm not doing so outside of the recent reminder by the moderator regarding the creating of duplicate issues. So here goes. If in mid-game a manager wishes to substitute a player, can he then move the DH to a positional player's role. Just for clarification, let me give a hypothetical situation. Let's say Sandy Leon is the DH and batting 6th in the lineup. But in the fifth inning the starting catcher, who has been batting 9th, is injured. Can Farrell then make a double switch and put Leon behind the plate with Leon retaining his place batting 6th, and a bench player taking over the role of DH while hitting in the vacated 9th slot?
  17. Top of the ninth, one run lead, no outs, runners on 2B and 3B, and right handed catcher due up batting next to nothing while first string switch hitting catcher batting in the high 300's sits on the bench. Egads, will someone hit JF over the head!
  18. Here are Pedey's total stats from his first full season, 2007 to the present. If he plays another 5 years and maintains this level of play, is he a legitimate HOF candidate? BA .301, OBP .366, OPS .811 with an average 16 homers per season and 77 RBI per season.
  19. I'm a bit surprised that when it comes to past and present 2B/SS combo's, no one has brought up Jeter and Cano.
  20. Yeah, now you're talking. Vizquel & Alomar as a keystone combination is hard to top. Although both played for numerous teams in their respective careers, if memory serves me, they made for a brilliant combo for the Guardians in the 1999-2001 seasons.
  21. Undoubtedly fantasy combos could be created that would be elite, and Pedroia & Vizquel would certainly make for a great tandem, but I was referencing pre-existing 2B/SS that played together.
  22. Just to focus on that issue a bit, the Patek/Rojas tandem played together from 1971-1975 when White took over 2B from 1976-1979. Defensively, I can't unequivocally compare Frank White at 2B with Octavio Victor (Cookie) Rojas. (Had to sneak that in!) However Rojas career spanned 16 years and White 18 years, and their offensive stats are quite comparable. Rojas BA .263 and OBP .306 while White had BA .255 and OBP .293 That being said, as good as they were, the tandems of Patek/Rojas and Patek/White in my opinion were 2nd tier combos to the elite level.
  23. After watching the amazing double play by Pedroia and Bogaerts in the seventh inning, I began reflecting on some of the great American League keystone combinations that I’ve been fortunate enough to see. For close to 20 years, 1977 through 1996, the Tigers had a premier keystone combination with Alan Trammell and Lou Whitaker. And the mid-50’s through the mid-60’s Kubek and Rchardson of the Yankees comes to mind. Also in the mid-50’s to mid-60’s the White Sox had a formidable tandem of Luis Aparicio and Nellie Fox. So which keystone combination stands out in your mind as the tandem you’d build your team around?
  24. Let's see what Buchholz, with his new mindset, can do today against the D-backs. Does he revert to form and put the Sox in an early hole, or does he go out there and gives a sterling performance for six or seven innings? And if the latter, does JF pencil him back into the starting rotation going forward?
  25. So do you think they'll keep Benintendi up on the team when Young comes off the DL or will they ship him down to Pawtucket where he can play every day and get additional seasoning?
