  1. It could be worse, the Braves have only hit 3 home runs AS A TEAM. Like over 90 individual players have hit as many or more home runs than the Braves
  2. Being able to go first to third on a single and taking an extra base from a lazy outfielder are part of baserunning as well.
  3. Apparently Miller wants to try and pitch through his injury
  4. Apparently Miller could be out for a while now. He got hit in the wrist by a liner and it is described Cashman said Miller has "at least a bruised right wrist." Tests will tell the entire story.
  5. I believe there is a Spring Training competition index that tells you what type of competition players have been facing during the course of ST. I think it is on Baseball Reference under the spring training stats for any particular ball club. http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/BOS/2016.shtml So Shaw has an OppQual of 8.1, meaning that he has been facing generally competition that is of AAA quality. Out of all your starters Kelly has faced the weakest opponents besides Owens, at 8.4. So he is right around the AAA quality competition as well, but then again so is Price at 8.6 I know this doesn't take into account players working on different things like bunting or throwing a certain pitch, but it does help to quantify who a person is playing against.
  6. He really does need to do something about left field. I know HanRam was going to viewed as an average to below average fielder, but I don't think anyone thought he would be negative WAR bad. He has a -1.9 dWAR, and his offense has only been good enough to get him to -0.7 total WAR. He should be paying the Red Sox at this point.
  7. I don't this warranted a new thread at all. But apparently the Rays High-A club had a A-Rod Juice Box night that got cancelled. the first 500 fans would get a juice box that had a list of side effects on it. Some included: tainted records and omission from the hall of fame. I found it pretty funny.
  8. Ellsbury to the 15 day DL. Jacko, did you see what happened?
  9. And to think the Royals were thought of to not really be in the race for the AL central. Lots of surprises this season so far. Especially with the AL west playing so badly, the Guardians/White Sox playing badly, Toronto and Baltimore at the bottom of the AL east, and Boston's offense scoring in the bottom half of the league.
  10. Inconsistent umpire in the early going, should make for an agonizing game.
  11. My bad, one word mistake. Does not change the content of my post.
  12. You're defense should be a whole lot better without Hanley in the outfield. I think his DRS is something like -6, which I think is one of the worst in the league. I really don't know why they signed Panda to be honest. You could have had Xander/HanRam playing a combo of third and shortstop. With Castillo in the outfield (forgetting the DL stint of course). Then used the money saved from Panda to sign a pitcher.
  13. Its either down the middle or horribly off plate
  14. Certainly not for Clay's ERA.
  15. They switched it to a double apparently.
  16. Think it might have been his shoulder? Or his arm?
  17. Please beat the Yankees today guys.
  18. Also another good discussion is bullpen usage and leverage. When to use your most dominant relievers. If your best reliever is your closer, should the manager use them in the seventh when the team is up by one run and there are 2 men on and only one out? Or risk losing the lead and not using your best relief option at all. There was a pretty good read about it over on Draysbay. I'll try to find it when I have time later tonight.
  19. I think this decision to call up Swihart made Humberto mad. He tried throwing a runner stealing third and promptly hit the batter in the stomach with the throw. I dont understand how a play that bad can be made by a 35 year old vet. Looks like the Red Sox made the right choice in who they called up.
  20. I won't even get into whatever discussion bostopz is talking about, far too much text for me to read in one sitting. Speaking of stats vs. traditional thinking. Does anyone else hate Harold Reynolds for how close minded he is with his baseball analysis. He still places Brandon Philips in his top 10 second basemen for the sole fact that he hits lots of RBIs. The other memorable instances would have to be him saying that diving head first into first base can get the runner there faster, or his whole take on the argument of batting your best hitter second instead of third or forth.
  21. I'm hoping the inconsistency was due to the injury before it was discovered. We shall see what happens when his rehab starts with him. Otherwise I'm liking our front four of Cobb, Smyly, Archer, Odorizzi. Especially with it looking like breakout years from both Archer and Odorizzi.
  22. Biggest surprise has got to be the Yankees offense for me. They are tied for 3rd in HRs with 29 currently. I just wonder if they can keep it up. Teixeira has been hitting the ball with more vigor than in recent years. His average is identical to his last year's average, but his power numbers have skyrocketed for someone who is aging in the wrong direction. They also only have 5 players on the DL (counting the recent addition of Tanaka), I think that number will continue to rise given the age of the team. I am also surprised at that my Rays have been able to tread water with a league leading 12 players on the DL for most of the month. Our offense is about middle of the pack, which is what I expected, but I think when our pitchers start to come back in May(Cobb and closer Mcgee) and June(Moore) that the team will surprise a lot of people.
  23. So, on a day where four of the five AL East teams are off and there is nothing much to talk about. How is everyone feeling about the season so far? Anyone surprised that the AL East standings are this close currently? Every team is within a 3 games of each other, and only the Blue Jays are below .500, which if they beat the struggling Guardians, could be at .500 by the end of the day.
  24. I have been, it is crazy. You can sometimes hear the cell phone buzz in the commentator's box. And I swear I heard police sirens in the background.
  25. What is going on in Baltimore right now is crazy. They have closed off the game from the public tomorrow, but the game will still play. Imagine a game with zero fans in the stadium, absolutely silent. They also have moved the games from Baltimore to Tropicana with Baltimore acting as the home team for that series.
