Thanks Spud...... let me reminisce for a bit. I didn't know Gomes played in Japan until they were talking about it tonight.
I lived in Tokyo for a bunch of years. Tokyo is the home to two teams. The famous and best team in the J-League the Tokyo Giants who are pretty much the Yankees and have all allstars on their team. Duchebags like Matsui was on that team, Tokyo also has the the super sad and never win Yakult Swallows. So for a couple of seasons I followed the Swallows, the tickets were cheap, they had a small and beautiful non-domed park in the middle of Tokyo. And the right field bleachers had cheering squads that were dedicated and had complex cheers for every player................ they were horrible....... but they were my team when I was in Tokyo.............
So on a date with my now wife who actually liked baseball before I met her........ I splurged and bought tickets to sit behind first plate. I think it was like 25 bucks. And other than the bleacher seats, no Japanese fan at the games say a word. They don't give the players crap at all. And I'm a bit fired up..... cause I really like this sad ass Swallows team. And the opposing team has this white dude at bat, who has looked like a chump the last couple at bats. And the Swallow pitcher throws a bender which the white dude hitter misses by a mile, almost comical like how bad the swing was. And I yell something like....... "Nice Swing Guy". Which anyone yelling behind homeplate must have seemed extremely odd and maybe a bit disrespectful to the other fans that sat behind the plate around us. As Japanese people just don't do that stuff, it's not in their culture. I felt a bit uncomfortable afterward, but I'm like f*** it......... the white dude gets it. And the very next pitch......... BAMM......... the white dude crushes a homerun and look back in the area I was sitting............ almost like I gave him the strength to hit that
and I just slunk way back in my seat................
