  1. Even if he does slump.....which he will....he will save runs with his glove and canon of an arm. Today he's 0-2 so far.....but he saved a run with a great throw. ......and as you may remember, I wanted him gone after 2014!!!! .......woops
  2. Holt has a .356obp, batting .280 and a .780ops. I'd swap Holt for Mookie in the order if Mookie doesn't get on track in a few weeks. Holt performed quite well in the past when given the leadoff spot. I'm not saying it should be a permanent move or anything......but I think Holt would be a very good leadoff hitter until Mookie gets out of his slump.
  3. Well.......he did say that and he said it the following season when his numbers were indeed down from his norms. However after that he averaged .285, 31hr's and 100 RBI's.....which are on par with the seasons with Manny. Look......I'll never say that Ortiz is a better hitter than Ted as the stats obviously point to Ted. However Ted was a downright dreadful fielder. He even admitted to hating to play the field and was often seen practicing his swing in the field during the game! Could you imagine if a player did that today?!?! To hold Ortiz being a DH against him in an argument about Ted is pretty silly. Ortiz is the best champion the Sox have had. Ted never delivered when it was needed most......and was terrible when he had his lone chance. Something Ortiz cant say. Again......Ted has the numbers.......Papi has the rings and DELIVERED HUGE for all three of those. PAPI!!!!!!!!!
  4. I was thinking the same thing Nut. The kid is doing fine......ride that horse till it breaks down. .281avg, .356obp and .771ops is not exactly bad stuff!! Heck, I'll say it; .......if he keeps this up and Mookie continues to slump for the next few weeks.......maybe swapping the 2 in the lineup would be a great idea. Holt did pretty solid for us as a leadoff guy before......
  5. Can't disagree with that. I will say though.....Pedey and Ortiz as well as Bogey have been GREAT. If they come back to earth.....and they will.....we'll need The 'old Betts' back. Heck......we're Sox fans......there's ALWAYS something wrong with the team that will cause it to implode......right?? HA!
  6. Agreed. Solid deal for sure.
  7. One of my favorite more recent memories of Papi was in the 2013 WS. Probably the worst coaching decision I have seen in some time was when Matheny kept pitching to Ortiz. Papi was hammering the baseball at a record pace and almost single handedly beat the Cardinals!!!! It was like he kept saying "eventually we'll beat him......he'll cool down....he HAS to!!".......well, he cooled down alright......during the parade in November.......
  8. haha!!
  9. Gotcha. I'm still a bit alarmed by his very low OBP, and low OPS though. Pedey, Papi and Ortiz will have their ups and downs just like any player so they can't keep masking Betts issues at the plate forever. He is the 'table setter' and a HUGE part of this team. I have no doubt he'll figure it out.......I just do not like the pattern of slow starts that is starting to develop.
  10. Well......I wouldn't say 'well on his way considering he has less HR's, Less RBI's. Yes.....he has more runs (5) but that is skewed.... the players behind him are hitting WAY better than they did last year at this time and his OBP, OPS and SLG are ALL worse this year.... and he has less walks.
  11. For all of the reasons above.....that's why Papi IS the best Sox player ever. Sure there was Yaz and Ted.........but nobody on this team can boast about the heroics that Papi has done, in the most pressure packed time. Something that is not often said either......plying in today's baseball I believe is WAY more pressure than yesteryear. More teams, more players, way bigger farm system to come through, way more media, more TV exposure, Social media, blogs, vlogs and tweets.......oh my!! 3 WS championships where he was a HUGE part of them. Like I said in another thread...... Ted = Marino........Papi = Brady
  12. Mookie started EXTREMELY slow last year......to the point where he got moved down in the lineup for a bit. He started hammering the ball again in late June......but by then the season was pretty much done. I predicted a sophomore slump for him......and I'm wishing I was wrong. I hope the slow starts do not become too much of a pattern. The good thing is that the rest of the lineup is masking the fact that he really has not been that good at all. I think I heard the Farrell is going to give him a day or two off this week. I think that's a great idea. Maybe moving him down in the lineup may be a good as well if this continues for a few more weeks. The kid's a hard worker though......he'll get it figured out
  13. Agree 150%!!!!!! Moncada will probably not ever be our 2B. Pedey has it for awhile.....and after that I seriously would not be shocked if Betts is moved back there. Moncada needs to get reps in the OF where he'll probably be used. Same goes for Devers. I could see Devers sticking at 3B more than Moncada at 2B though. Obviously I agree on Swihart. I really do not see a spot for him on this team. Great kid....great work ethic and solid player....but what we NEED is NOT converted catcher LF'r. Right now I consider him trade bait......and his biggest value is at catcher.
  14. The last Avatar was better.......
  15. I've said it a billion times......moving Swihart to the OF is stupid. We are not in huge need of OF'ers. We have Betts, Young, JBJ, Holt, Castillo, Betti and maybe Devers and Moncada. Swihart had a plus hit tool as A CATCHER!!! Not as an OF'er. His stock would be WAY higher as an above average hitting catcher with average D then an average hitting OF'r with average D. LF'res that hit .280, 13 HR and 60 RBI are a dime a dozen...........catchers with those numbers ARE NOT. Keep him at catcher!!!!!!!!!
  16. I was one of few that was a big fan of Theo. He helped bring 2 WS championships to a team that hasn't won forever....to the point where a stupid Globe writer made up a dumb crap curse. He helped make this team a winner year in and year out. What he has done in Chicago has been nothing short of brilliant. If he helps bring a WS championship to the Cubs.........Theo will find himself in Cooperstown.
  17. I hope you're right.......I NEVER jump on umps about games and acyually enjoy the whole 'human error thing' (something the NFL needs to gt back to) however......this one was stupid. Like "lose your job stupid".
  18. For me it was Hanley.........Hanley.......and Hanley........ since I thought moving him to 1B was the stupidest idea ever.......
  19. Well......I don't think it was a 'defining win'. It was an excellent win where everybody stepped up after that horrible start, however, that is also on e big takeaway. Good to great teams overcome problems and take it upon themselves to shoulder the load......this team is doing a GREAT job of this so far. As for Kimbrel.....he'll be fine. He started slow last year but after the first few hiccups became pretty much the best closer in all of baseball. I don't have any worries with Price either. Right now my main concern is getting production from Mookie. As I stated in another thread......he seems to be getting into a funk where he starts slow. I predicted a sophomore slump for him and so far I am correct. I would still keep him at the top of the order......but he needs to start producing as Pedroia, Bogey and Ortiz can't carry the offense forever.
  20. Thank you for saying that Max. Other than a few questionable decisions early on.....Farrell has been doing an outstanding job with this team. As you said.....the team is not without its issues but he has been putting together solid lineups, making great BP moves and managing the SP very well. The Manager gets the blame when the team stinks......and the players get the praise when they do well. I for one have been VERY impressed with Farrell and I was one of the many saying he should NOT get his job back after 2015.........
  21. That's right!!!! Forgot about that trade!!!!!!! I tell ya.....I really thought Lars would become something. I watched him a TON at Portland and the kid really seemed to 'have it'......it's a shame, he was a really good kid.....just probably couldn't handle the pressure.
  22. Oh don't get me wrong.....like I said, Bogaerts is pretty much my favorite player and he's having a great start to the season. I just am wondering where the power has gone. When he was in the minors one of his biggest hit tools was his power. He was known as our best power hitting potential prospect. I'm just shocked that he doesn't have more dingers playing in a park that is pretty much designed for a player like him. I'm sure it will come though.
  23. Almost forgot about Julio Lugo........what was his obsession with that guy?!?!?!
  24. I think this team as already dangerous Flap. They just took 2-3 from one of the best teams so far in the AL. It's early obviously but our season was over halfway through June last year! Right now my biggest concern is getting Mookie on track. He is falling into a habit of starting slow and that's not a great thing for the 'table setter' of the team. Xander is probably my favorite player right now.....but I really would love to see more power from him. What happened to his power?!?!
  25. ........And my team would beat your team all day every day.........
